Zordani, Weisberg Earn Cherokee School Character Awards

Classes end June 6.

The last day for students (grades 1-7) will be June 6 (students will attend school for one hour). June 3 will be the last day for Kindergarten students (regular schedule of attendance).

 Parents can go online to order school supplies for the 2011-12 school year. School Pak, Inc provides this service for the district based on the District 67 developed list for the 2011-12 school year. This program is sponsored by the District 67APT, is not for profit, is not a fundraiser and is totally optional. The District 67 Brainstormers program is offering a Heartsaver CPR and First Aid class at Deer Path Middle School on June 7-9 for students who will be entering grades 6-9 in the fall. This American Heart Association course will teach adult, child, and infant CPR and adult and child AED. It will also cover how to handle life threatening emergencies and basic first aid. Course includes certification card, an inflate-a-shield keychain mask, and Pediatric Heartsaver First Aid textbook for each student. At the Fourth Grade Spring Celebration at Cherokee School, Will Zordani received the Excellence in Character Award, sponsored by Character Matters in Lake County – a committee of the Lake County After School Coalition and the Regional Office of Education of Lake County. The purpose of this award is to honor students across the county who exhibit outstanding character within their school communities. Porter Weisberg receive the Daniel Jaekel "Heart of Gold" Award.  This award was created to honor the memory of Jaekel, a former Cherokee student,. The award goes to fourth grade student who, in the eyes of the Cherokee staff, best meets the qualifications of compassion, fellowship, congeniality, fairness, and charitable respect.

More than 300 students in grades 4-8 performed during District 67's Spring Orchestra Concert, which featured the world premiere of “Erebus,” a composition written by Jeffrey Bishop for DPM Orchestras. Bishop is a teacher, composer and conductor.  His compositions for string orchestra, full orchestra, concert band, and choir have been commissioned and performed in the United States, Mexico, and throughout Europe. The recipient of the 1997 National School Orchestra Association Composition Contest Award with his “Symphony for Strings No. 1,” Bishop has more than 60 pieces published by the Neil A. Kjos Music Co., Wingert-Jones Music, and C-Alan Publications.
