Lake Forest Puts Twist on 'Shark Tank'

Lake Forest College students will present marketing and advertising campaigns for three local start-up businesses.

Three businesses in the Lake Forest Business Accelerator have partnered with Lake Forest College's business entrepreneurship class to develop creative marketing and advertising campaigns. All three campaigns will be presented during Lake Forest’s version of “Shark Tank” from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 26 in the City Council Chambers, 220 Deerpath Road. The event is open to the public.

Darlene Jaffke led Lake Forest College's entrepreneurial marketing class in creating advertising and marketing plans for real businesses in the city’s Business Accelerator.

Three students were assigned to three different businesses, for a total of nine students participating in the program. Businesses participating are: 80/20 Business Solutions, a technology cloud company; The Zen of Slow Cooking, a retail spice company and Kid-Smarter, a technology application.

The project provided students with the opportunity to actually work with a local entrepreneurial start-up organization in putting together a marketing and advertising campaign. The students met with the business client, put together a marketing and advertising campaign for them.

The presentations will begin at 5 p.m. Each presentation will last 30 minutes, followed by questions and answers. Drinks and light snacks will be provided.
