12U Scouts head to Cooperstown, NY, tourney.

The Lake Forest Baseball Association Scouts, armed with hot bats and consistent defense, have shown they are ready for summer baseball as they kick off their play in the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League (LSFBL) and other area leagues and tournaments.

Coach John Muscarello's 13 Gold team opened the LSFBL summer season with an 8-3 win at home against Park Ridge last week.

Scouts pitchers Luke Bauder and Jack Skinner surrendered only two runs during the game. Offensively, Sam Brush recorded two hits in the scorebook including a triple.

The 13 Gold Scouts continued their winning ways with a 5-4, seventh-inning victory over Mundelein.

Taking on the second of two Mundelein teams, in another LSFBL matchup, were the 13 Blue Scouts. The 13 Blue Scouts played the second Mundelein team, winning 19-6. Jared Muller's pitching was excellent shutting down Mundelein with five strikeouts.

In relief, Jake Cirame shut the door allowing one run in his two innings of work. On defense, the Scouts turned three double plays. On offense, the Scouts pounded out 19 hits including seven for extra bases.

The 9U, 10U, 11U and 14U Scouts will begin play in the LSFBL this weekend. Both 12U Scouts teams head to Cooperstown, NY, this week to participate in the town's historic baseball tournament.

Home to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown hosts an annual tournament which draws teams from around the country. The 12U Scouts will jump back into LSFBL play upon their return from Cooperstown.

On June 3, the 14 Blue Scouts posted impressive wins in tournament play. The Scouts had a 'take no prisoners' attitude during the Waukegan June Elite Select Tournament. Defeating elite teams from Niles, Ill., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, early on in the tournament, helped put the 14 Blue Scouts on a path to the championship round. In the final game, the Scouts fell to the elite Chicago team, Amateur City Elite to claim second place in the tournament.

Also beginning their summer baseball season is the LFBA 8U Developmental team. The 8U Scouts participate in the North Shore Travel League. The 8U Scouts lost to the Vernon Hills Cougars in their league home opener June 6 at Townline Field in Lake Forest, but bounced back to beat the Edgebrook Thunder, 15-0, on June 7.

In the win, Scouts pitchers Thomas Swartout and Connor Armstrong combined for 11 strikeouts. Matt Basgall and Henry Pickus are credited with a double and triple, respectively, that led to big run rallies.
