Lake Forest College hosts Second Annual “The Sleds Are Coming”

The second annual “The Sleds Are Coming” event will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on the campus of .

The Lake Forest College Athletics Department, in conjunction with the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA), will host the event. Admission is free and open to the public, but donations are encouraged ito support GLASA.  

Former Chicago Blackhawk and 1980 USA gold medalist Jack O’Callahan will make an appearance as a special guest and Larry Potash, morning anchorman at WGN, will serve as an honorary official and drop the puck at the event.

The purpose of “The Sleds Are Coming” is to bring campus and community exposure to GLASA and showcase its sled hockey program while raising funds for the Falcons sled hockey team and other GLASA athletes. The Falcons are coached by retired Lake Forest men’s hockey coach Tony Fritz. In addition to the game, there will be raffle prizes, including an iPad, and a puck toss competition.

Last year, in its inaugural year, the event raised nearly $1,800 for the organization and had more than 400 people in attendance. The competition on the ice consisted of two 15-minute periods of 8-on-8 sled hockey played by members of the GLASA Falcons and two 10-minute periods of 16-on-16 sled hockey played by teams made up of the Falcons and various members of the college community.
