The Christopher Quon Alumni Game sponsored by the Lake Forest High School Boys Soccer Team

On Saturday, August 18, the Lake Forest High School Boys Varsity Soccer team will be hosting its annual alumni game/fundraiser, “The Christopher Quon Alumni Game,” at Varsity Field, West Campus.  The game is named in honor of Chris, a LFHS 2005 graduate and varsity soccer player, who unexpectedly lost his life from heart failure at the age of 22 in 2009.   Also honored at this year's game is longtime LFHS soccer supporter and Lake Forest Soccer Association volunteer coach, Jim Gorand, who passed away last fall.

The game--featuring dozens of alumni, including teammates of Chris and Jim’s son --will be held at 5:00pm. All levels of Boys soccer will also be playing their kick-off Blue/Gold games prior to (starting at 3:00pm) and following the Alumni Game.  From 3:00-6:15pm, a raffle/auction will be held and proceeds will be donated to the Christopher Quon Foundation. Exciting auction prizes  include packages from local businesses, tickets to Bears, Bulls and Fire games, tickets to the Tony-winning Best Musical "Memphis", a US jersey signed by the 2012 Olympics Women's soccer team, a football signed by NFL #1 Draft Andrew Luck--and much more! All raffle items are provided by many generous businesses in the community.

The foundation was established as a tribute to Chris by using the funds to support all that Chris loved and cared about so deeply. A varsity athlete in high school and at Colorado College in both soccer and lacrosse, Chris used his sports whenever he could to help others less fortunate than him.  As Chris did, the foundation supports organizations that 1) are committed to fighting cancer, 2) use sports to develop young people, and 3) help disadvantaged young people especially in the areas of sports, music and travel. The CQF also honors Chris by annually giving back to his two alma maters with scholarships.

Chris played in his only Alumni Game in 2009. He never left the field and it was a night the Quon family will always remember.  Jim (father of Chris' teammate, Pat) was at the game last year. He had a huge smile on his face as he watched Pat play while holding his granddaughter in his arms. The Quon and Gorand families are grateful the high school team has chosen to honor Chris and Jim with this special Alumni Game. Chris and Jim wanted to make a difference in the world and with the help of the LFHS Boys soccer team--their spirit of giving will continue.

All are encouraged to attend to enjoy a game under the lights, support the LFHS teams as they kick off their new season, cheer on the LFHS alumni- and most of all, help others through supporting the Foundation
