Lake Forest Prepares for Tiger Woods' Arrival

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and other top PGA pros head list of players coming to Conway Farms in Lake Forest.

A tiger is coming to Lake Forest and his last name is Woods.

Woods will be one of scores of top professional golfers competing in the BMW Championships Sept. 12-15 at Conway Farms Country Club in Lake Forest.

Trying out the course today a month ahead of time were Luke Donald and Mark Wilson as part on an exhibition to raise money for the Evans Scholars Foundation. They were joined by Chicago Bull Kirk Hinrich and Northwestern University basketball Coach Chris Collins.

Collins and Wilson teamed against Donald and Hinrich in a “skins match” at $5,000 a hole. If neither team won the hole, another $5,000 was tacked on to the next link of the nine-hole match. Collins pared the final hole for the victory.

The biggest winners of the day were the young caddies who will earn needs based college scholarships through the Evans Scholars Foundation with $45,000 going to the organization. The other winners were the crowd of more than 200 who got an up close look at the athletes and Conway Farms as it gets in shape for the tournament.

Among those in the gallery was Lake Forest Mayor Don Schoenheider. He is happy the event is coming to Lake Forest and with what it will do for the community. Listen to his remarks on the Patch video.
