LFHS's Tommy Rees Could Start for Notre Dame

Last season's starter, Everett Golson, is no longer enrolled at Notre Dame, the 'Chicago Tribune' reports, leaving open the possibility that the Lake Forest High School football standout will start.

Lake Forest High School graduate Tommy Rees could be the starting quarterback for Notre Dame this season.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that last year's starter, Everett Golson, is no longer enrolled at the university because of an academic violation.

"There is a logical and seasoned solution on hand, of course, in senior Tommy Rees and his career totals of 4,413 passing yards and 34 passing touchdowns," the Tribune story says.

Rees broke nearly every school record as the Scout's quarterback. In a 2011 interview with Patch, he explained why, as a sought after recruit, he chose Notre Dame.

“The balance between the football program and academics was too good,” Rees said. “With the tradition, playing in Notre Dame Stadium. And getting a degree will set you up for life.”

Rees too, has had disciplinary action taken against him after being arrested last year for an altercation with South Bend Police after running away from an off campus party. He later pleaded guilty to some of the charges, was given a suspended sentence, agreed to 50 hours of community service and 11 months of probation. He was not allowed to play in last year's season opener because of the incident.
