Opportunistic Lake Forest Patch Orioles Hang On, Grab Minors Title

Timely hitting, pitching lead to 1-0 win over Rangers.

This was definitely one case when Chris Fisher didn't mind being wrong.

The manager of the Orioles told his players that it would take more than one run to beat the Rangers in the championship game of the Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Department's Minor League.

In fact, it took just one.

The Orioles combined strong pitching with an opportunistic offense to edge the Rangers, 1-0, Wednesday night at Deer Path Park.

"You have developed so well as a team, which to me is the best part of sports," Fisher told the team afterward. "You are champions."

The Orioles broke a scoreless game in the top of the third after one out when Jake Fisher walked, stole second and scored on Colin Lochiatto's infield hit.

"Jake came around third and just kept going when they made a play at first to get Colin," Chris Fisher said. "He came through when it really counted."

The Orioles looked like they were going to threaten in the first when Robby Gray reached on an infield hit and the next two batters were hit by pitches to load the bases with one out. However, the Rangers got the next two batters out to end the threat.

The Rangers had just one base runner until the fifth, going down in order in the second through fourth innings. In the fifth, however, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out, but Jake Fisher struck out the next two batters to put that fire out.

The Orioles looked to possibly add an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Lochiatto led off with a double. However, Ranger pitcher struck out the next three batters.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jake Fisher struck out the side to end the game.

The rest of the Orioles roster included: Danny Fisher, Michael Daniels, Carson Ward, Jack Heydorn, Chris Kondiles, Scott Notz, Joey Grabe, Chase Waggoner, Sam Rogers and Alex Aluto.

The Rangers roster included: Clayton Burton,Teddy Oline, Luke Gershkovic, Jackson Smith, Dylan Kipp, Ethan Hunt, Jake Kauffman, Ryan Kauffman, Patrick Mordini, and Lino Caputo. The team is managed by Patrick Burton.
