Geocachers Clean-up North Shore Bike Path

Geocachers of Northeastern Illinois helped remove trash while hunting for treasure.

The Geocachers of Northeastern Illinois braved the rain this past weekend to participate in the bi-annual cleanup of the North Shore Bike Path that runs from Libertyville to Lake Bluff.

Hidden all over the world in fields, parks and interesting places are millions of tiny packages called geocaches. In fact, there are more than 10,000 Geocaches in Lake County alone. With the help of a GPS or even a smartphone, cachers can track down these packages, log their experience, and leave the cache as they found it for the next visitor.

Geocaching is not only a global phenomenon that motivates people to explore their environment, Cache in Trash Out encourages geocachers to remove debris from the cache sight and leave the area better than they found it.
