Golf Tourney Benefits Shields Township Food Pantry

Tees off Friday at Lake Bluff Golf Course.

Over the first five months of 2011, the saw an 67 percent increase in customers over a year ago.

“And the summer months typically see some of the highest traffic of the year due to children being out of school," said Gale Strenger Wayne, Shields Township supervisor.

To ensure there is enough food for a growing population of those in need, is sponsoring the Friday (Aug. 12) at Lake Bluff Golf Course.

Registration starts at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A dinner, silent auction and awards ceremony is set for 6 p.m.

Organized by a volunteer committee, there are opportunities for individual involvement, including:

  • Sponsor a foursome or gather three friends and play.
  • Become a hole or beverage cart sponsor and advertise your company.
  • Donate items to the Silent Auction raffle.
  • Come for dinner (food provided by Bluffington’s and sponsored by Northwestern/Lake Forest Hospital).
  • Offer helping hands the day of the outing.
