Know Your Pet Shelters: Save-A-Pet in Grayslake

Largest no-kill shelter in northern Illinois.

This week’s “Shelter You Should Know” is certainly familiar to most animal lovers in Lake County.

Save-a-Pet is the largest no-kill shelter in northern Illinois, taking care of hundreds of dogs and cats each year. While Save-a-Pet suffered financial problems last year that threatened to shut down the Grayslake facility, a flood of positive publicity and hundreds of adopters raised enough funds to keep Save-a-Pet open and accepting more needy animals.

While many rescue groups only take in animals that can be quickly adopted, Save-a-Pet has several dogs and cats that have suffered abuse or trauma. They work with them and never give up, even if it takes years to find a forever home. Take a look at some of these animals and open your heart to a pet who will make you complete.
