Young at Heart Rescue Finds Homes for Senior Pets

Meet Mylo and Ella.

Happy New Year to all our readers, and may all of you think about adopting a dog or cat in the next year!

Young at Heart Rescue focuses upon finding homes for older dogs and cats. Most of these animals are older than four, and many find themselves starting a new life because their owners lost their homes, had a baby, got married or other assorted reasons that have nothing to do with the pet itself.

It's heartbreaking for these dogs and cats, who want nothing more than a loving hug and warm bed.

Young at Heart fosters its pets after doing temperament tests and vet assessments. They post them on their wesbite

However,  they also offer a wonderful page of "courtesy listings" for shelters trying to highlight their older residents, and private individuals who don't want to leave their dog or cat at a shelter at this time. Since older pets have far fewer chances of adoption at traditional shelters, and often are the first ones euthanized to make space for puppies or kittens, this is an amazing gift to these animals!

Young at Heart does warn they do not personally know these animals, and bear no responsibility for the conditions or actions of these dogs and cats. However, you never know what amazing pet you might discover on this page!

A few examples:

  • Mylo:This precious little Jack Russell Terrier mix is looking for a loving home. Mylo is 7 years old and really just wants to be loved. His little tail just wags and wags! When he sits on your lap, you can feel his whole body wagging with happiness! Mylo came from an animal control in Southern Illinois. Oh, and if you like doggy kisses, Mylo may be the perfect match for you — Won’t you come to meet this great little boy today?
  • Ella: A sweet, 13-year-old Maine Coon cat. She has been a part of our family since she was a kitten but has become increasingly unhappy as our family has grown. Once we started having children and got another cat and a dog, it became clear she needs to be an only child. She’s well cared for, spayed, and up to date on her shots. She is also front de-clawed. We are deeply saddened at the thought of her leaving our family and desperately want to find her a loving, calm home where she will be happy. Please help us make our cat happy again. We’re open to a meet and greet and happy to share vet records and/or any other info you need about her.
