Nick Offerman, who plays the government-hating Ron Swanson on Parks and Rec, is spending the night at The Music Box Theatre to celebrate the launch of his new book, “Paddle Your Own Canoe: One Man’s Fundamentals for Delicious Living.” After a reading and Q&A, he’ll introduce one of his favorite movies, Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man, which he saw at the Music Box when he was living here as an actor in the 1990s.

Tickets to the event cost $30, which includes a copy of the book. Tickets for two people and one book are $40. They can be purchased online. To just see the movie, which costs $10, buy tickets here.

Then, see some funny movies

The third annual Chicago Comedy Film Festival runs this weekend at the Showplace ICON Theater at 1011 South Delano Ct E, not far from Roosevelt Road and State Street. The festival was started after organizers became frustrated that the established film fest circuit often snubbed comedies. The films range from a minute to full features. You can plan your trip using the schedule here.
