Which North Shore Town is BBQ Champ?

The Annual Bannockburn Barbeque Challenge is one of several events worth checking out this weekend along with a visit from a Blackhawk and the Family Fun Fest at Forest Park.

Barbeque Challenge

Deerfield, Bannockburn, Riverwoods, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff and Kildeer will send their best cooking representatives to Bannockburn from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Bannockburn Green Shopping Center.

Along with live music, each town will compete for best ribs, best brisket and best side. There will be people’s choice winners as well as a panel of judges headed by Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) and state Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield).

Before you head to the Barbeque Challenge, you can stop and get an autograph from former Chicago Blackhawk Tony Esposito at 11 a.m. at Deerfield Tire. There will also be games and the Falcons hockey team will be doing a fundraiser.

Family Fun Fest at Forest Park

Bid adieu to summer (can it possibly be time for that already?!?) at the Family Fun Fest Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine. There will be live music, games, a touch-a-truck raffle and food from Raging Kitchen.

Port Clinton Art Festival and Taste of Highland Park

Combine the finest of the epicurean and art worlds in downtown Highland Park this weekend in the annual combination of the Taste of Highland Park and the Port Clinton Art Festival.

The fun starts at 11 a.m. Friday with lunch at the Taste on Central Avenue between First and Second Streets. Central Avenue will be blocked off to automobile traffic between First and Second Streets for the weekend along with parts of First and Second.

The dining goes from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The art exhibitors will be out from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There will be free entertainment as well.
