East Lake Academy began to take shape in 2000 and formalized as a private Catholic school with its opening in the fall of 2001.
Just 13 students formed the first class in 2001, ranging from kindergarten through third grade. In the summer of 2002, East Lake Academy received canonical approval as a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago by Francis Cardinal George.
The current building was constructed in 2002, when the student body was expanded to include pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.
