City will come back with agreement that earmarks how the process will be carried out.
For the second time in recent history, the city of Lake Forest will partner with a special community board to create another gem worthy of civic pride after the City Council unanimously approved the Forest Park Master Plan Monday night. The City Council’s approval closed more than two years of public debate on the master plan since it formed the Forest Park Project Board comprised of residents in May 2010 after approving the conceptual master plan. The master plan came to the City Council after approvals from both the Parks and Recreation Board and Historic Preservation Commission. “It’s a different master plan and more importantly, it’s a better master plan,” said Ralph Gesualdo, president of the Forest Park Project Board. “I think it’s…

Take a Stand, a new group, wants parents and teens to realize the prevalence and danger of heroin and other substances; they hope knowledge will end the cycle of deaths.
Most parents aren’t aware of their child’s drug use when it first starts, according to Lea Minalga, a drug abuse expert. Five north-suburban women have embarked on an effort to bring awareness to parents of the problem of heroin and substance abuse in this community. After a successful pilot that turned two blighted single-family homes into affordable housing units, the Lake Forest City Council approved at its May 7 meeting the addition of three more homes for residents and local employees who could not afford to stay in Lake Forest. “I’m very proud that Lake Forest has moved forward on this,” said Tom Morsch, a member of the Lake Forest housing trust and former alderman. “I’m proud that the City Council has continued to support efforts in this sphere going forward.” The council voted to devote $225,000 to purchasing the homes, continuing its partnership with the Highland Park-based nonprofit Community Partners for Affordable Housing.
