Lake Forest Police Department will help local youth with bike safety.
A Bicycle rodeo teaching bicycle safety sponsored by the Lake Forest Police Department will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Oakwood Parking lot adjacent to City Hall, according to a news release from the Department. The event is free to children of all ages and they can arrive anytime during the four-hour span. They must bring their own bicycle and helmet. Participants will tour a number of stations dealing with important facets of safe cycling, according to the release. Bicycles will be inspected and safety skills taught. Once the rodeo is finished, participants will receive a free raffle ticket for a drawing for a bicycle. Larsen, 20, of , Mendota Heights, Minn., was transported to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and later cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor. Driving under the influence April 27: An officer responded to Route 41 for a cell phone complaint of a possibly intoxicated driver. There he located Lauren M. Mcardle, 27, of Lake Forest, swerving in and out of her lane.He stopped Mcardle, who admitted to drinking and exhibited a strong odor of alcohol. Lake Forest High School District 115 is in the process of searching for a new principal following the April 24 retirement of Jay Hoffmann. The district hopes to have a new leader by June 30 and is asking the community to give their feedback via an on-line survey by Tuesday, May 21. The anonymous survey will help the district identify key attributes the community feels candidates should possess. Survey results will be shared and used by candidate screening and interview teams. Lake Forest resident Dean DeBiase, a former College of Lake County student who gained distinction as a Silicon Valley and Chicago business leader, will be the keynote speaker at the college’s commencement ceremony on Saturday. DeBiase, who transferred from CLC a few credits short of earning a degree, will also receive an honorary associate degree and the Illinois Outstanding Citizen Award. Police say the Hoffman Estates man molested an 8-year-old at the church's special needs child care center, the Daily Herald reports.
A teenage Willow Creek Community Church volunteer has been charged with molesting an 8-year-old boy, the Daily Herald reports. Officials say 19-year-old Robert Sobczak of Hoffman Estates was volunteering in a care center for special-needs children when the molestation occurred. If convicted, he could face three to seven years in prison, the newspaper reports. Willow Creek is headquarted in South Barrington, with campuses in Northfield, Crystal Lake, Huntley, Chicago and West Chicago.

A 34-year-old Waukegan man was arrested for striking an officer while he was in the process of being arrested for stealing copper gutters in Lake Forest on April 25. Police went to a home on Knollwood Drive in response to a report of someone possibly stealing copper gutters off of the house on April 25. They found Nicholas E. Kanvik in the yard of the house. He immediately fled on foot from police but was caught after a brief foot chase, according to police. Officers located several lengths of copper gutter in Kanvik’s pickup truck as well as a saw and bolt cutters. Lake Forest High School pole vaulter Carly Schmidt knows she can make track and field history at the State Meet Friday and Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and she is ready. Schmidt placed fourth a year ago as a junior clearing 12-0—teammate Carolina Carmichael won the gold medal with a leap of 12-6—and was disappointed with her performance.
