Opened in 1962, Cherokee Elementary serves students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Situated in the middle of aMore residential area, Cherokee fits perfectly into District 67's concept of a neighborhood school. Parents can stay abreast of school happenings and get involved through the Association of Parents and Teachers. The school is also served by the Spirit of 67 Foundation, a not-for-profit organization comprised of parents of District 67 students who are dedicated to raising funds and acquiring resources to enhance their children's educational experience.

Lake Forest School District 67 has more than 2,000 students attending three elementary schools for gradesMore kindergarten through fourth, and a middle school broken down into fifth/sixth, and seventh/eighth. In 1954, Deer Path Middle School was built followed by Sheridan (1956), Everett rebuilt (1957) and Cherokee (1962).

The District's 150-year history can be seen through the old Quinlan School, which was built in 1861 at the time the town of Lake Forest. It was chartered and later moved and then became a private residence. 

Average elementary class size is 21 students per classroom. There is a ratio of approximately 13 students to every teacher at District 67. The administrator to pupil ratio is 150:1.
