I believe all elections are a referendum on what kind of people we are and what kind of people we want to be, and the November elections are no exception. I am especially focused on the Congressional race in my district which pits Democrat Brad Schneider against incumbent Republican Robert Dold. A vote for Congressman Dold is a vote to keep Republicans in control of the House of Representatives and a continuation of abhorrent practices such as imposed inequality (marriage is rationed only to those approved by the GOP) and militant opposition to compromise as a solution to an electorate that is evenly split on nearly every issue. As a veteran and a citizen who believes in national service for all, I am also disgusted with a Congress that …

Democratic challenger sees red over GOP attempts to politicize relationship between Israel and the United States.
Both Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and Democratic challenger Brad Schneider of Deerfield agree with President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Iran should not have nuclear weapons but are not in complete harmony on the approach. A day after the President told the United Nations General Assembly Iran will not be allowed to have nuclear weapons; Netanyahu drew a red line on a chart telling the same body military action should be automatic if the boundary is crossed. Earlier: Democrats’ Jerusalem Platform Plank Unifies Dold, Schneider Like the President, both contenders for the 10th District seat want all options on the table including the use of force. Dold wants a precise red line to keep Iran in check. Schneider…

Schneider and Dold already have five commercials on television.
Commercials for Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and Democratic challenger Brad Schneider of Deerfield are starting to hit the airwaves in the 10th Congressional District as both candidates try to chart a course of independence and bipartisanship. Nowhere in any of the five commercials aired so far—three by Dold and two from Schneider—is the word Democrat or Republican mentioned. Neither are the words progressive or tea party used in the spots in this race drawing national attention. Earlier: Campaign Intensifies for Schneider, Dold “What you see now is fighting and gridlock,” Schneider said in his first commercial. “I’ll work with everyone. Democrat, Republican as long as they have a good idea.” Dold offers a similar message. “The …

It has been frustrating observing our polarized Congress and seeing too many members take extreme positions and being unwilling to work together to find real solutions to issues. That makes it critical for all of us to find the best possible Candidates to go to Washington to represent us. That is why I have personally taken the time to sit down with the Democratic candidates in the tenth congressional district to hear their views and positions and their approach to dealing with issues, gone to forums to hear how they handle themselves, reviewed their web pages, scrutinized their answers to candidate questionnaires, and looked at their literature and closely watched the evolution of their campaigns. Though the field is an impressive group …

As Congressman approaches end of initial year in Congress, he reflects on highlights of term.
Voting on issues affecting the economic well being of residents of the 10th Congressional District has been just one part of the journey for Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) since he went from operating a 150-year-old family business to the halls of Congress. Though Dold has had nearly unlimited access to power brokers like Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), he has found representing approximately 650,000 of his neighbors a humbling experience. “I get goose bumps when I go up the steps of the Capitol,” Dold said. “There are several ways to get from the Cannon (House Office Building) to the floor. You can take the tunnel or you can walk outside. I prefer to go outside." Dold had been a member of …
