Grevers—Winning a Gold Medal is Cool

Lake Forest swimmer pays tribute to everyone who helped him achieve Olympic success in an interview with 'Millionaires Corner'.

Being the best 100-meter backstroke swimmer in the world makes Lake Forest’s Matt Grevers feel very special, according to an interview published Tuesday on the Millionaire Corner. Winning a pair of Olympic gold medals and a silver at the London Olympic Games completed last week “was a pretty cool feeling,” Grevers said in the interview with Millionaire Corner’s Donald Liebenson. “To know that you’re the best in the world at something feels pretty good.” Talking to the financial on line publication, the Lake Forest High School and Northwestern University graduate applied the language of finance to his sport. “Every investment can have a great return,” Grevers said in the interview giving tribute to his hard work and that of everyone who has…

Update: 'Ms. Basketball' Wins Third Olympic Gold

Tamika Catchings, who played for Stevenson High School in the mid-1990s, is a member of the 2012 women's basketball team.

(Update, August 12) The U.S. women's basketball team won the gold medal Saturday in its final Olympic game, beating France 86-50. Tamika Catchings, a member of the team who played basketball for Stevenson in the '90s, Tweeted the news Saturday afternoon. "Wow #Soblessed!! #OperationGOLD ACCOMPLISHED!!! Swim Club Gets Olympic Gift

Dwyer sends his teammates a special flag.

Members of the Lake Forest Swim Club got a special treat this week from one of their teammates. The teammate happened to be Olympic Swimmer Conor Dwyer and the gift was an Olympic flag from London signed by Dwyer, a member of the gold medal winning men’s 800-meter freestyle relay team who placed fifth in the 400 freestyle. “It’s cool having people from the swim club in the Olympics, “Yana Dessev, one of Conor’s teammates, said. Loukas Friends, Family Gather for Olympic Watch

Impromptu party at Cubby Bear North organized to support Riverwoods’ Christina Loukas dive in Olympic finals.

When you want to watch a good friend or a girl you knew since infancy compete in the Olympics what do you do if you are not in London for the Games Sunday? In the case of more than 50 friends and family of Deerfield High School graduate Christina Loukas, you go to church in the morning and then head for the Cubby Bear North in Lincolnshire, an establishment owned by Christina’s parents, Patty and George Loukas. Earlier: Loukas Finishes 8th in Olympic Diving The impromptu party was more than cheering for Loukas. It was a way of supporting a family which has been an important part of their lives as well. Loukas Finishes 8th in Olympic Diving

Matches performance four years ago in Beijing.

Christina Loukas came up a bit short in her hopes to claim a medal in the finals of the three-meter springboard diving competition today at the Aquatics Center of the London Olympics. Loukas scored 332.10 to finish eighth in the world. It is the same position the Riverwoods’ native and Deerfield High School graduate had 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Earlier: Loukas Dives Into Olympic Finals “Loukas is performing well today,” British Broadcast Company commentator Liam Taylor said. “A little bit away from her best. She will be eighth today. Grevers, Phelps Lead U.S. to More Gold

Lake Forest’s Matt Grevers now has six Olympic medals to his name; three gold and three silver.

Lake Forest’s Matt Grevers is golden again and he had company, Michael Phelps. Grevers, who won an Olympic gold medal Monday in 100-meter backstroke, doubled his collection Saturday at Aquatics Center of the London Olympics. Earlier: Grevers Claims Olympic Gold, Record Swimming backstroke, Grevers did the opening backstroke leg of the men’s’ 4 x 100 medley relay. The American team, which had never lost this event, did not disappoint, coming home in a time of 3:29.35. The Americans easily outdistanced Japan, who was second in 3:31.26 in the final swimming event of the London Olympic Games.
