Will Romney sweep to victory in the Badger state?

Maybe he wasn't singing, but when he left Illinois, Romney's campaign was humming.

Good weather, contested races not enough to stir interest.
Voter turnout in Tuesday’s primary in Lake County echoed the low turnout throughout Illinois, even on a day when temperatures soared into the 80s. Just 23.46 percent of registered voters exercised their right to vote. Lake County Clerk Willard Helander said voter turnout for primaries is historically lighter than the general election. However, Helander said she was surprised that voters did not turnout for the 10th Congressional district race. The 10th district runs through most of Lake County. “That was surprising. It was a four-way race and well financed. I expected far more people to be out and interested,” she said. Helander was surprised that more people pulled a Republican ballot than Democrat. “My personal opinion is that people …

Will face Barkhausen in November general election.
Sandy Hart will be able to continue to meet the residents of Lake County District 13. The Lake Bluff resident walked away with a lopsided victory over challengers Anthony Soler and Robert Glueckert in Tuesday night's Democratic race, garnering more than 70 percent of the vote. "Going door to door was the best part of campaigning," Hart said. "I met a lot of great people who are really concerned about local government." Hart, who sits on the Lake Bluff Park District Board, will meet David Barkhausen in the November general election. Barkhausen narrowly defeated fellow Lake Bluff resident Rick Lesser by 122 votes in Tuesday night's District 13 Republican race. "This was definitely more challenging," Hart said of the Lake County race …

I recently received a direct mail piece from Louise Hayes and was upset to read her opinion regarding Republican candidate, Mike Nerheim. Ms. Hayes, who I know to be only a part-time Attorney in the Lake County State's Attorney’s Office, indicates in her mailer that Mike Nerheim puts the public at risk because of his occupation as a Criminal Defense Attorney. I am a 25 year veteran of Law Enforcement and my Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 66, unanimously endorsed Mike Nerheim in his candidacy for Lake County State's Attorney. I was well aware of Mike's current occupation when the endorsement was made. I am also aware of his extensive and therefore well rounded experience as a prosecutor, civil and municipal attorney. Ms. Hayes seems to…

Lake Forest pair answer questions at League of Women Voters/Patch forum.
While Sunday's Candidate Forum at the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Senior Center focused primarily on Lake County positions, Scott Helton and Mike Rummel had an opportunity to present themselves as the hometown boys running for the Republican nomination for the District 12 seat on the Lake County Board. District 12 represents Lake Forest, Knollwood, and portions of Highland Park and Deerfield. Rummel has lived in Lake Forest for 28 years, and served as an alderman and mayor of the city. Helton moved to Lake Forest more than a decade ago after serving on the village baord for 12 years in Glenview. The seem to agree on several issues, but perhaps different ways to get there based on their experiences. Here is a cross-section of questions the two…

Newt Gingrich could truly run rings around Barack Obama in a head-to-head debate. And when it comes to comprehensive understanding of free market principles, American capitalism, and economics, again Obama would be woefully ignorant against Mitt Romney. When liberty and respect for our constitutional republic are thought of, Ron Paul is at the forefront; Obama has proven his contempt for the …   more ›
