At a special meeting on Monday, Dec. 3, the Lake County Forest Preserve Board of Commissioners elected their new leaders, choosing to retain Ann Maine of Lincolnshire as President and Linda Pedersen of Antioch as Vice President. Both will serve two-year terms that end December 2014. As newly re-elected Forest Preserve President, Maine will focus on continuing her efforts to complete and extend popular multi-use trail systems like the Millennium Trail and Greenway, restore wetlands, prairies and forests, and open new preserves throughout the county. League of Women Voters’ forum is only face to face meeting between Schneider and Dold in 10th District. General Assembly and Lake County Board candidates debate too.
Voters who want to get a close personal look at Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and his Democratic opponent, Brad Schneider of Deerfield, debating will get their only chance at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Lake Forest High School east campus auditorium. The forum, co sponsored by the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff, the LWV of Highland Park/Highwood and the LWV of Deerfield in coordination with Patch and the Union League Club of Chicago will also feature candidates for the Illinois General Assembly and the Lake County Board. Most Lake County Board members will earn smaller salary in 2013.
Two-thirds of Lake County Board representatives will take a pay cut, starting in 2013. There are 15 board members earning $44,074; the other eight are paid $40,945 per year. The Lake County Board approved paying all members $40,945 per year at its June 14 meeting. The board’s reapportionment committee proposed the salary change at its June 7 meeting, to start in December 2012, the start of fiscal 2013. The original proposal would have evened out the salaries at $43,750 for four years. Brent Paxton, who represents Zion District 4, made a motion to lower the salaries to $40,945 at the June 7 committee meeting, but did not get a second from reapportionment committee members. David Stolman, Buffalo Grove, will chair county board; Ann Main, Lincolnshire, elected forest preserve president.
The 23 members of the Lake County Board and the Forest Preserve District elected new leaders Monday morning. David Stolman, a Republican attorney who has represented the Buffalo Grove area on the county board since 1992, was elected chairman of the county board. Anne Maine, a Lincolnshire Republican and biology lecturer at Lake Forest College, was chosen as president of the forest preserve district. "The county deserves the best and I can't think of anyone who would do a better job," said outgoing chair Suzi Schmidt who is heading to Springfield in January as state senator for the 31st district.
