Scouts' Bund places 10th in 1600 at State.
BOYS' TENNIS Date: May 26 - State Meet (see full results) The Final Score: 1. Hinsdale Central 50, 2. New Trier 36, 3. Lake Forest 30, 4. Stevenson 27. Top Scout Performers: Sophomore Peter Tarwid placed sixth in singles, falling in the fifth-place match to Hinsdale Central's Sam Bloom, 7-6 (4), 6-3. Tarwid won his first three matches before losing to Hinsdale Central's Martin Joyce in the championship bracket quarterfinals, 7-5, 6-4. But he bounced back in the consolation bracket to win his next two matches to advance to the fifth-place match. Junior Billy Bund is breaking records in the 1600 meters and has only scraped the surface.
When he entered Lake Forest High School for his freshman year, Billy Bund figured his athletic path would point him to the football and baseball fields. Now, as he prepares for the home stretch of his junior year, he’s thinking about records, particularly the 1600, on the outdoor oval. “My background was football and baseball; I had never competed in track or cross-country,” he said. “During my freshman year, I was a wide receiver and kick returner on the football team and played outfield for the baseball team.” But then some of his friends on the track team, along with former head coach (now assistant) Denis Sheeran, started bending his ear. Golf team continues to show depth.
BOYS' GOLF Date: Sept. 1 The Final Score: Lake Forest 146, Mundelein 151 Scouts’ Star Performers: Joe Willis shot a one under par 35 in the nine-hole match to lead all golfers. Sophomore Drew Takacs carded a 34, but his score did not count since he was not listed as one of the six players whose scores would be tabulated into the total. Other Notable Scout Performances: Nick Steffens, Ian Mankoff, Charley Marshall, Matt Garrity, Mac Mardjetko and Chad Williams all fired 37 to add to the Lake Forest domination.
