A woman who allegedly killed her husband with a coffee cup gets a Patch columnist thinking about what would drive a woman to ruin her china like that, and to murder her husband.
The other day, while drinking a third cup of coffee and avoiding all the things I should have been doing, I hit the jackpot. The newspaper jackpot, that is, which means that I found, buried deep in a section usually reserved for house training puppies, a true and unusual story about murder, marriage and mugs. In case you missed the article, featured at the bottom of page a zillion in the back of section Z, the reporting went something like this. A 70-year-old woman, who had a long and impressive career as a tennis referee and was in NYC preparing to work in that capacity at the US Open, was arrested for allegedly murdering her husband of nearly 50 years with a coffee cup. Panera Bread will offer free coffee from 7-9 a.m. Feb. 1 in launching its "Warm Up Wednesday" campaign. Panera Bread is located at the intersection of Waukegan Road and Route 176 in Lake Bluff. The campaign runs each Wednesday during February.

Caribou Coffee has something new to talk about for a change. Slated to open in September, Lake Forest will become one of eight new homes to a Caribou Coffee shop. The eight locations represent a sudden growth shift for the St. Paul-Minneapolis company, which hasn’t opened a new store nationally for nearly five years, according to Dean Torrenga, senior director of operations for Caribou Coffee. “We know we are under-serving the Chicago DNA,” Torrenga said. “Chicago is our second-largest market (to St. Paul-Minneapolis), and know it could be one of our largest.
