Lake Cook Road Reconstruction to Dominate 2013

Drivers will have to deal with major strip being under construction.

Now that 2013 has rung in, Highland Park and Deerfield residents may be anticipating many things about the new year. But it is highly unlikely commuters are looking forward to the construction project slated for Lake-Cook Road starting in March. Deerfield Village Manager Kent Street put the inconvenience succinctly, “It’s going to be a challenge." As Patch has previously reported, the Cook County Highway Department is scheduled to do a massive renovation of Lake-Cook Road from the area just east of the Metra stop through Waukegan Road to the area west of Northbrook Court. The project is scheduled to be completed in November. Once the project is done, the major east west thoroughfare will have three lanes in each direction and intersection …

Portion of Atkinson Road to Close for Two Weeks

The Atkinson Road bridge over I-94 is closing for deck patching, curb repairs and a polymer deck.

The Atkinson Road bridge over the Tri-State Tollway (I-94) in Green Oaks is scheduled to close on Monday, June 11, for approximately two weeks for bridge repairs. The bridge is scheduled to close at 4 a.m. on June 11 and a detour will be posted. The detour will direct eastbound Atkinson Road traffic north on St. Mary's Road, east on Buckley Road (Illinois Route 137) and south on Waukegan Road (Illinois Route 43) to reach Atkinson Road. Traffic heading west on Atkinson Road would take the same detour in reverse. The bridge is closing for deck patching, curb repairs and a polymer deck overlay to extend the life of the bridge. The bridge has one lane in each direction and is too narrow to allow a work zone with equipment while maintaining …

Expect Traffic Snarls on Route 176 During Bridge Construction

Signs warn of lane closures.

You might want to consider another east-west route for awhile. Route 176, between Green Bay Road and Waukegan Road, will become a one-lane thoroughfare this week as construction on the Bridge Reconstruction Project ramps up. The $1.63 million project is expected to last up to six months through October 2012, according to a Village of Lake Bluff e-mail sent out to Lake Bluff residents this past weekend. Upon completion, the new bridge will accommodate a middle turning lane on Route 176 in preparation for if a turn lane is constructed in the future on Route 176 from Route 41 to Green Bay Road, according to the e-mail. Starting later this week, Route 176 will be reduced to one lane around the bridge, and temporary traffic signals have been …

Roadblock Removed to Summer Road Work

An attempt by Illinois Senate Democrats to restore money to the state budget for education and social services—by tying the issue to funding for construction of roads and schools—was abandoned Thursday. The cuts for schools and social services remain and

Construction Season: Hunt Club, Wadsworth Roads to Close May 9

Construct a roundabout to replace the existing multi-way stop intersection.

The Lake County Division of Transportation will close the intersection of Hunt Club Road at Wadsworth Road to all traffic for 60 days, starting at 7 a.m. May 9. The closure is necessary to allow the County's contractor, Campanella and Sons, Inc. to construct a roundabout to replace the existing multi-way stop intersection. The roundabout as designed will reduce crashes and crash severity as well as increase efficiency of the intersection. For this closure there will be two signed detour routes: Hunt Club Road: the signed detour route will be Illinois Route 173, Rosecrans Road, to U.S. Route 45, to Millburn Road, Lake County Route A-14. Local traffic will be allowed on Hunt Club Road from Illinois Route 173 to the work area and from the …

Lake-Cook Road Repaving Begins in Early April

Lane closures expected as pavement is replaced.

South Lake County commuters can expect plenty of traffic tie-ups when they experience reconstruction of busy Lake-Cook Road beginning in early April. The $6 million project to patch pavement and repair potholes and infrastructure between Wilmot and Pfingsten Roads in Deerfield is expected to kick off this year’s Lake County construction season. It will continue until the summer of 2012. The project will be managed by the Cook County Highway Department. Work will include repair and upgrading of traffic signals, water mains, sewer lines, and manhole rehabilitation along the route. “The replacement of the Deerfield water main system in this area will include new valves, hydrants, and several new service connections to office properties along …

Lake Bluff to Replace Sheridan Road Watermain

Watermain replacement project to begin in March.

A Lake Bluff watermain installed in 1932 has finally met its end and is scheduled to be replaced within the coming months. The Sheridan Road Watermain Replacement Project will remove an old portion of watermain that had broken beyond repair, according to Village Engineer George Russell. “There were several bad breaks in the main last year and when we dug down to try to repair it, the main was very badly corroded. We actually shut a portion down because we couldn’t patch it,” Russell said. Russell also said the watermain is undersized for current standards. According to Russell, the construction will not cause any road closures or water outages for residents. “The main is being installed in parkway areas and nobody is going to have any …
