Family Seeks Support in Cystic Fibrosis Walk

"Team Claire for a Cure" will participate in the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk on May 19 in support of Claire Maguire, 4, of Lake Forest.

The Maguire family of Lake Forest, whose 4-year-old daughter, Claire, has cystic fibrosis, is reaching out to the community to support "Team Claire for a Cure" in the annual Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk on May 19 at Gillson Park in Wilmette. Claire Maguire was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after her birth in April 2009. According to the family's blog, a State of Illinois newborn screening test identified that Claire was positive for the disease. The diagnosis was confirmed at  Chicago’s Children's Memorial Hospital via a sweat test. The family says on their blog that Claire has experienced setbacks including weight loss and time away from school for treatments, she still enjoys many of the same activities as other children. …

Dozens Help Lake Bluff Youngster Reach for Her Make-A-Wish Goal

Children decorated Valentine’s Day cookies to help raise funds at Panera Bread in Lake Bluff.

A Lake Bluff 11-year-old who loves hockey and listens to the Jonas Brothers is closer to viewing the world from a cruise ship thanks to help from her peers and families following a Valentine’s Day cookie decorating event Saturday at Panera Bread in Lake Bluff. Megan, whose last name was protected by the Make-A Wish Foundation of Illinois, was diagnosed in 2000 with cystic fibrosis, a hereditary disease affecting the entire body, causing progressive disability or worse. Among the painful, disabling symptoms are thick mucus build-up in the lungs and digestive tract.
