Lake Forest Teachers Release Final Offer, Board Decries Tactics

A week after union declares impasse, the educators release an overview of their final offer and the Board criticizes teachers’ methods.

The Lake Forest Education Association (LFEA) teachers’ union released an overview of its final offer to the Lake Forest High School District 115 Board of Education Friday and the Board responded by criticizing the educators’ methods as well as some of their information. The LFEA set forth its overview in a news release from spokesperson Chuck Gress and the Board reacted to the information by issuing a statement to Patch a few hours later. Rather than distill the language of the parties positions, Patch has published both the entire release and the Board’s response as attachments to this article so those interested can read the two statements side by side. The next mediation session between the two sides is Thursday. For a complete review …

LFHS Teachers Declare Impasse, Strike Possible

Union eschews strike and hopes to speed up negotiations though a work stoppage could occur as early as Sept. 10.

Impasse was declared today by the Lake Forest High School teachers in an effort to end their ongoing contract negotiations and arrive at an agreement with the District 115 Board of Education, according to Lake Forest Education Association (LEEA) teachers’ union President Richard Moore. Though the members of the LFEA want to start the school year with a new contract and without the pressure of ongoing talks, today’s move clears the way for a strike as early as Sept. 10. Representatives of both sides hold their next negotiation session August 23. Earlier: LFHS Teachers Remain Without a Contract “I’m a teacher. I just want to teach,” Moore said. “I left the business world because I want to help raise the next generation.” He wants a contract …

Correct the salaries should be in line with others at FULL TIME JOBS - 76% of my real estate tax bill of 12K plus a year goes to schools. Plus I'm paying for their "pensions" Why aren't they paying 100% of the retirements? Why aren't they paying 50% or better for their health insurance? FIRE THEM ALL NOW! This is exactly why unions are disappearing. The education system is so over bloated with …   more ›

Union Claims LFHS Board Will Not Meet

Board has yet to respond to the union’s latest proposal and will not schedule further mediation.

No negotiation sessions are currently scheduled between the Lake Forest Educators Association teachers’ union and the Lake Forest High School District 115 Board of Education as the Board has posted what it claims are both sides’ positions on its website. According to the information on the website, the union is demanding a three-year contract with an average annual increase in compensation of 6.7 percent while the Board is offering a 3.6 percent increase. The increase is a calculation of both salary and benefits. Earlier: LFHS Teachers Remain Without a Contract At this point, the teachers are waiting for a response to their latest proposal, according to Univerv Director Mark Stein, an Illinois Education Association official. “We are kind …

Will our children once again get to see the teachers in their solidarity t-shirts and hear them complain about having to work without a contract? It wasn't very impressive last fall. How will the teachers explain that 3% was insufficient for them when the rest of us are getting smaller or no raises at all?   more ›

LFHS Teachers Remain Without a Contract

Latest mediation fails to produce an accord. No future date set for talks but sides remain hopeful with school opening in just over a month.

With the opening of school August 27, the Lake Forest High School teachers remain without a contract with both the educators and the administration claiming issues of compensation and benefits remain to be resolved. The District 115 Board of Education and the Lake Forest Educators Association (LFEA) did not reach an agreement Thursday when they met with a mediator in an attempt to resolve their differences, according to both Board President Sharon Golan and LFEA spokesperson Chuck Gress. “The mediation session did not produce an agreement and we do not have a date yet for another,” Golan said. The dispute has been going on a year. The parties could not agree on a long term contract last year and settled for a one-year pact. “We presented a…

Let them walk, let them leave. In an economic time when the citizens of the community are struggling financially, and most have to either pay into their healthcare of pay it completely, the teachers are being unreasonable. They are some of the most well paid teachers in the STATE. If it isn't good enough here, go somewhere else. I have little sympathy for the teachers, who have more days off than…   more ›
