Lake Forest Walgreen Mansion Under Contract Following Foreclosure

Lake Forest mansion owned by the great-grandson of Walgreen Co. founder is now under contract eight months after a foreclosure suit.

The Lake Forest mansion owned by Charles R. Walgreen, great-grandson of Walgreen Co. founder Charles Rudolph Walgreen, is under contract eight months after a foreclosure suit was filed, Crain's Chicago Business reports. Records show that U.S. Bank filed foreclosure on the property in March, citing a "$1.7 million line of credit issued in 2006 by United Community Bank of Lisle," the article states.  The Ridge Road home, which was listed with the agency Koenig and Strey Real Living, went under contract after it was relisted for around $1.4 million, the Crain's article said.. Patch Flash: Budget Cuts Could Force Illinois Prisoners to Live in Gyms

Illinois prisons and mental health facilities are already overcrowded and Gov. Pat Quinn plans to close several facilities due to budget constraints. Employees and communities impacted by the impending closures are worried about what will happen to the people living in the closing mental health and jail facilities.  The state is considering housing the inmates in gymnasiums. One correctional officer recalled when the state tried housing inmates in gyms in the ‘80s: "I can't tell you the numerous fights, inmate assaults, and staff injuries when this did take place," Randy Hellmann said. Times are tough for restaurateurs and one suburban businessman is hoping his customers will rally behind him and help him keep his pizza place open. The …

Foreclosures On The Rise In Lake County

Still just a small part of the housing picture in Lake Forest, Lake Bluff.

According to a report from RealtyTrac, foreclosures are on the rise in Illinois and in Lake County. RealtyTrac is an online marketplace for foreclosure properties. Grayslake ranked third in Lake County Foreclosure Activity Count with 82 foreclosures in May. Buffalo Grove was fourth with 61 foreclosures. Lake Zurich had 38 foreclosures in May. Other towns counts were: Barrington, 31, Lake Forest 12 and Lake Bluff 10. Round Lake and Waukegan had the most foreclosures in May with 131 and 121, respectively. The total number of Lake County properties that received a pre-foreclosure filing was 647, the highest this year.
