Lake Forest High School pole vaulter heads back to State Meet after Sectional victory. Scouts take fifth at Sectional as Schlachtenhaufen, Chode and relay also qualify.
Lake Forest High School pole vaulter Carly Schmidt dwarfed the competition at the Palatine Sectional Friday to qualify for the State Meet Thursday through Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Schmidt led two other Scouts—distance runners Helen Schlachtenhaufen and Elle Chode—and the 4x800-meter relay team into the State Finals as the team placed fifth in the Sectional with 42 points. The Illinois High School Association approved new safety rules Wednesday to limit tackling in youth football practice in an effort to reduce head injuries, reported the Daily Herald. In March, a controversial bill sponsored by State Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) proposing to limit the number of days players could have full contact hitting practice (twice a week) failed in the House committee. The new IHSA policy calls for coaches to gradually increase the time players can participate in preseason practice, along with the number of protective pads they can wear. On the seventh day of practice, players can participate in five hours of full contact drills wearing full pads, according to the IHSA. However, no single practice can exceed …

Coming off a strong performance Wednesday against Hersey, the Lake Forest High School basketball team defends its Regional championship at 7:30 p.m. today against Mundelein in Lake Zurich. Lake Forest High School basketball team advances to Regional final Friday against Mundelein.
A solid defensive effort paved the way for the Lake Forest High School basketball team’s Regional semifinal victory over Hersey today, 69-45, in Lake Zurich to advance to the championship game Friday. The Huskies kept the game close until early in the second quarter when Lake Forest went on a 19-8 run to take control. After that, balanced double figure scoring from Sam Downey, Evan Boudreaux and Carter Bass and suffocating defense put the game away. For the first time in 10 years, the Lake Forest High School swimming team took home a trophy from the State Meet.
A team and community effort brought Lake Forest High School its first trophy from the State Swim Meet in 10 years Saturday in Winnetka. From a pre meet pep talk from Coach Cindy Dell to chants of “Let’s go relay, Let’s go relay,” from the Scout faithful at the New Trier High School pool Saturday in Winnetka before the final event, everyone was focused on the athletes in the water. Lake Forest High School Swim Coach Cindy Dell took a new tactic this season in hopes of helping the team earn a trophy. She trained the Scouts the same way perennial powers New Trier, Hinsdale Central and St. Charles North approach a season. It worked as the Scouts joined New Trier and Hinsdale in the quest for a trophy. She has been preaching it to the team and she talks about it here. Lake Forest High School swimming team brings home first hardware in 10 years.
A complete team effort propelled the Lake Forest High School swimming to third place in the State Meet today at New Trier High School in Winnetka giving the Scouts their first trophy at the event in 10 years. The Scouts entered the meet with a goal of coming home with hardware and that is what they did by scoring 90 points. They finished 12 ahead of fourth-place Libertyville and three behind runner-up Hinsdale Central. New Trier won its third straight title with 189 points. Lake Forest High School Swim Team qualifies for medals in two relays and five individual events at State Meet.
Putting itself in a position to earn a trophy at the State Meet for the first time in 10 years, the Lake Forest High School Swim Team put two relays and four individuals competing in five events into the finals at 1 p.m. Saturday in Winnetka after today’s preliminary round. Seniors Peter Grumhaus, Colin Rowe and Bogdan Balteanu along with sophomore Daniel Smith will swim for a championship in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Grumhaus, Rowe and Smith will compete for individual honors along with diver Andrew Marsh. Peter Grumhaus and Colin Rowe are making their fourth consecutive trip to the State Meet today and Saturday for the Lake Forest High School swimming team in Winnetka. This time they after something different. The Lake Forest High School wrestling team will compete in an important meet at Lake Zurich on Saturday, Feb. 2. The top three individuals will advance into sectionals at Barrington next weekend, and the team champion will head to the dual-team sectional, the Daily Herald reports. Lake Forest High School will face off against Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary-Grove, Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Zurich, Palatine and Stevenson. The state individual tournament will be held Feb. 14-16 in Champaign, while the dual-team state tournament is scheduled for Feb. 23 in Bloomington. The Feb. 2 meet starts at 9 a.m.
