Five people sent to hospital after Tollway collision in Lake Forest.
Five people were injured in a three-vehicle collision including a tractor-trailer on the Tri-State Tollway near Highway 60 in Lake Forest today, according to the Illinois State Police. Though three people were ejected from one of the vehicles, a van, none of the injuries were severe. “At first we thought the injuries were serious,” Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Pete Howe said. “That turned out not to be the case. None were life threatening.” The van was heading eastbound on Interstate 94 toward Chicago when it lost control, swerved across all lanes of traffic and was struck in the rear by the truck, according to Howe. No children sustain life threatening injuries as at least five ambulances transport students to local hospitals. Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District are first on scene.
(Update at 10:30 p.m.) A total of 22 people were taken to the hospital today as the result of a collision between two trucks and a school bus, according to a news release from the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District. Half of the 40 students on the bus sustained non life threatening injuries, according to the release. Of the 22 injured, 20 were students on the bus from Palombi Middle School in Lake Villa. The other two people hurt were the bus driver and one of the truck drivers. The collision occurred at 9:30 a.m., according to the release.
