Area Road Projects Announced

Lake County announces record 2013 highway construction program.

Construction will begin on 32 highway improvements in Lake County this year, totaling an investment of $126 million. This is the Lake County Division of Transportation's (DOT) largest annual highway construction program ever, and is almost three times the size of the biggest previous construction program undertaken by the county. The Lake County Board made a commitment to invest 100 percent of the revenue from the 1/4 percent sales tax for transportation and public safety funds approved in 2008 by the State of Illinois toward improving transportation. These projects are now being realized as a result of those funds. "The county board knows that transportation is one of the most important issues for residents and that is why we have made it…

After observing all of the street repair projects pending for the Antioch area, there is one very noticeably absent problem street: Grimm Road. This road is so full of potholes and black patches in poor condition, it is hardly worth driving on. PLEASE add resurfacing Grimm Road to the list of necessary repair projects!   more ›

Veteran board members see Lawlor as an innovative leader for the County Board.  "I've served…

Former Lake Forest Mayor Unopposed in Bid for County Board

No candidate files for Lake County District 12 race by Monday deadline; District 13 pairing remains the same.

Former Lake Forest Mayor Mike Rummel will run unopposed for the Lake County Board’s District 12 seat i the November general election after no opponent filed by Monday’s deadline. Contacted Tuesday, Rummel said he thought the cut-off was Tuesday in line with the recall election in Wisconsin; regardless, he said the news would not alter his campaign plans going forward. “I didn’t intend to change what I was going to do with or without an opponent,” Rummel said. Rummel earned the Republican nod after easily defeating fellow Lake Forest resident Scott Helton , 60 percent to 40 percent, in the March primary. The lack of an opponent in the November election may mean a shift more toward educating voters in the next few months versus comparing …

District 13 County Board: Barkhausen Edges Lesser for Republican Nod

Only 122 votes separate candidates.

In what turned out to be the most hotly contested Lake County Board race locally, David Barkhausen edged fellow Lake Bluff resident Rick Lesser for the District 13 Republican nomination Tuesday night. When all 22 precincts had been counted, Lesser trailed by only 86 votes. However, the former Lake Bluff Village trustee couldn't make up the difference when the early voting ballots were counted, allowing Barkhausen to maintain his slim lead, 52 percent to 47 percent. Barkhausen will face yet another Lake Bluff resident, Sandy Hart, who easily captured the Democratic nomination over Robert Glueckert and Anthony Solero, in the November general election. District 13 includes Lake Bluff, and portions of Waukegan, North Chicago, Gurnee, …

Lake County Board District 13: Hart Cruises to Democratic Nomination

Will face Barkhausen in November general election.

Sandy Hart will be able to continue to meet the residents of Lake County District 13. The Lake Bluff resident walked away with a lopsided victory over challengers Anthony Soler and Robert Glueckert in Tuesday night's Democratic race, garnering more than 70 percent of the vote. "Going door to door was the best part of campaigning," Hart said. "I met a lot of great people who are really concerned about local government." Hart, who sits on the Lake Bluff Park District Board, will meet David Barkhausen in the November general election. Barkhausen narrowly defeated fellow Lake Bluff resident Rick Lesser by 122 votes in Tuesday night's District 13 Republican race. "This was definitely more challenging," Hart said of the Lake County race …
