Lake Forest Baseball Association's (LFBA) 10 Blue Scouts captured the championship of the 15th Annual Vernon Hills Classic on July 7-8. Lake Forest rallied to beat Libertyville Orange, 15-14, in the championship game thanks to James Manzer’s walk-off shot over the right fielder’s head to score Michael Vallone as the two-hour time limitation ticked down. Libertyville put Lake Forest in a 7-0 hole quickly in the top of the first. Lake Forest fought back in the first three innings to tie the score at 7-7 with Connor Armstrong driving in three runs on Manzer’s bases-loaded triple. Lake Forest Baseball Associations 12U Blue and 12U Gold teams lived the dream during a June 23-29 trip to Cooperstown, NY - the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Playing in Cooperstown Dreams Park, Lake Forest competed in a field featuring 104 teams. The 12 Blue Scouts entered the tourney as the highest rank team from Illinois and finished with a 2-4 record heading into bracketed play July 4 where teams were 'seeded' and single-elimination rounds began. The 12 Blue team secured a pair of wins by defeating the Troy (Mich.) Bulldogs, 8-4, and the Kentucky Blaze, 5-2, to advance to play the 35th-ranked Louisiana Langinappe. Lake Forest Baseball Association's (LFBA) 11 Blue Scouts brought home the first-place trophy from the Ken-Win Memorial Day Tournament. After sweeping their division with wins against Glenview Blue (12-1), Glenview Red (10-5), and Ken-Win Blue (13-2), the 11 Blue Scouts advanced to the championship against Glenview White on May 27. The 11 Blue Scouts' posted a 17-7 victory over Glenview White. The team is coachedFrank Berry (11 Blue head coach), Brandon Moccia and Ethan Andrews (11 Blue assistant coaches). The 9U-12U LFBA Scouts teams also participated in Memorial Day Tournaments across Lake and Cook counties. The 10 Blue Scouts team took fourth place in the Libertyville Memorial Day Tournament, losing 7-5 to Oak Park.

Lake Forest Baseball Association's (LFBA) Scouts begin play with Opening Day games set for next week. LFBA's 11-under and 12-under teams open the season in Mike's Memorial League with the following home games: In the event of inclement weather, check the LFBA website, www.lfba.net, for updated game information. LFBA is a non-profit association that provides organized travel baseball to boys 8 through 12 years of age. During the spring season, the 11U and 12U Scouts play in Mike's Memorial League, as well as area tournaments. All of LFBA's teams compete in the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League and tournaments during the summer season (June-July). Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA) has opened its registration for travel baseball tryouts for 8, 9 and 10 year olds. The registration process for tryouts can be completed online at www.lfba.net, and the tryout fee is $40 per player. Tryouts for these three age groups will be held April 22 at the Deerpath Park Baseball Fields located behind Deer Path Middle School and across from the Lake Forest Recreation Center, 400 N. Hastings Road, in Lake Forest. The tryout times are as follows: Players should arrive 10 minutes prior to their scheduled tryout to check-in. Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA) will host its annual Orientation Night on from 6;:45-8 p.m. Feb. 23 at CROYA, located on the north side of Lake Forest Recreation Center, 400 N. Hastings Road, Lake Forest. The annual Orientation is open to all interested 8-under, 9-under and 10-under baseball players residing in Lake Forest High School District 115, as well as currently rostered LFBA 11-under and 12-under players. Plans for the 2012 season will be shared by LFBA's Commissioner, Chris Fisher, and other LFBA board members. More than 200 guests attended the Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA) annual fundraiser and season kick off party, Casino Royale 2012, on Jan. 28 at the Lake Forest Club. LFBA's annual fundraiser helps send two 12U teams to the annual Cooperstown Field of Dreams Tournament in Cooperstown, NY. This year, the two teams will play during the week of June 23-30 in the historic Baseball Hall of Fame city. Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA) invites players to participate in its 9-and-under and 10-and under indoor baseball clinics starting in January. The indoor clinics are designed for 9U or 10U ball players, living within District 115 (Lake Forest, Lake Bluff and Knollwood), who would like to work on their hitting, fielding and pitching skills. The clinics will be held at Slammers Baseball and Softball, 28427 N. Ballard Drive, in Lake Forest. The clinics are limited to the first 24 players who register within each age group. Lake Forest's championship in Sunday's 13-and-under "B" Flight of the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League on Sunday has been three years in the making. Coach John Muscarello began working with this group of Scouts when they were the 11-and-under team. He has shepherded them through a difficult beginning to a 6-5 victory over Park Ridge in Sunday's league title game at Community Park West in Glenview. “At 11 they really struggled,” Muscarello said. “They only won three or four games.” The next year, the Scouts jelled into a contender only to fall 2-1 to Evanston in the title contest.
