The Lake Forest 14U baseball team avenged three regular-season losses to Northbrook, capturing the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League Tournament title Sunday night in Glenview.
With high school baseball beckoning next year, Lake Forest’s 14U travel baseball team made sure its final game in the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League left a lasting impression. The Scouts avenged three regular-season losses in upsetting Northbrook, 13-10, to grab the tournament title Sunday night in Glenview. Lake Forest advanced to the finals with wins over Mundelein (8-7 in 12 innings) and New Trier Blue. For the Scouts, the win over Northbrook provided redemption on multiple levels. Scouts play Friday in North Shore Baseball League tourney.
Inspired by a gifted group of athletes seven years ago amid some controversy, the Scouts 8-and-under team has become a mainstay for the Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA). LFBA organizes competitive traveling baseball teams in age groups 8 through 14 with the aim of preparing players to play in high school and beyond, according to its website. The 8U Scouts are the newest addition this season. This edition of the 8U Scouts is 14-7 for the season and 11-5 in league play. They are seeded second in the North Shore Baseball League playoffs, and open play at 5:30 p.m. Friday against the Lake Bluff-Wheeling winner at Townline Community Park in Lake Forest. Lake Forest Baseball Association's 10 Blue Scouts sizzled in the Giants' Firecracker Tournament, earning second place over the Fourth of July weekend in Highland Park. Lake Forest advanced to the championship, losing 8-4 to Libertyville, after knocking off Glenview, 7-45, in the semifinals. Six teams competed in the 10A Division: Lake Forest, Highland Park, Evanston, Lake Bluff, Glenview and Libertyville. The Lake Forest Baseball Association Scouts, armed with hot bats and consistent defense, have shown they are ready for summer baseball as they kick off their play in the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League (LSFBL) and other area leagues and tournaments. Coach John Muscarello's 13 Gold team opened the LSFBL summer season with an 8-3 win at home against Park Ridge last week. Scouts pitchers Luke Bauder and Jack Skinner surrendered only two runs during the game. Offensively, Sam Brush recorded two hits in the scorebook including a triple. The Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA) will host baseball evaluations Wednesday for currently enrolled second graders (2010-11 school year) interested in playing 8-and-under travel baseball this summer. Evaluations will be conducted from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Northcroft Park, 1365 S. Ridge Road, in Lake Forest. Players who are both residents of Lake Forest High School District 115: Lake Forest, Lake Bluff and Knollwood, and are currently enrolled in second grade may register for the evaluation. To register, visit the LFBA website: www.lfba.net, where the required registration and waiver forms are available. Completed forms will be collected at the Evaluation practice. Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA) opens its online registration March 1 for 9-and 10-year-olds interested in playing travel baseball this summer. The registration process for tryouts can be completed at www.lfba.net and the tryout fee is $40 per person. The Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA) will kick off the New Year and the 2011 season with its annual fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Lake Forest Club, 554 N. Westmoreland Road. This year's theme "Casino Royale" will feature tuxedoed dealers at blackjack, craps and roulette tables throughout the evening.
