Lake Forest High School basketball team’s season ends with loss to Mundelein in Regional Final.
A three-point shot fell short in the closing seconds as the Lake Forest High School basketball team’s season came to an end with a 59-56 loss to Mundelein in the championship game of the Lake Zurich Regional. In a back and forth final quarter that started with the teams even at 45, Carter Bass gave the Scouts a 56-55 lead with 1:22 to go before the Mustangs’ Sean O’Brien put his team up, 57-56, with a minute remaining on the clock. Coming off a strong performance Wednesday against Hersey, the Lake Forest High School basketball team defends its Regional championship at 7:30 p.m. today against Mundelein in Lake Zurich. Earlier: Scouts Overwhelm Hersey in Regional Semifinal Coach Phil LaScala took time to talk to Patch after Wednesday’s 69-45 victory over Hersey about what the Scouts will do to prepare for the Mustangs. The North Suburban Conference rivals have met twice before this season with Lake Forest winning Nov. 30, 69-61, before falling to the Mustangs Jan. 24, 62-56. Lake Forest High School basketball team advances to Regional final Friday against Mundelein.
A solid defensive effort paved the way for the Lake Forest High School basketball team’s Regional semifinal victory over Hersey today, 69-45, in Lake Zurich to advance to the championship game Friday. The Huskies kept the game close until early in the second quarter when Lake Forest went on a 19-8 run to take control. After that, balanced double figure scoring from Sam Downey, Evan Boudreaux and Carter Bass and suffocating defense put the game away. Earlier: Scouts Rout Antioch on Court “Our defense came through,” Scout Coach Phil LaScala said. “We got some steals, some deflections and were able to go on a run. Lake Forest High School boys’ basketball team dominates Sequoits.
Feb. 19 The Final Score: Lake Forest 76, Antioch 42 Scouts Star Performers: Evan Boudreaux scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Carter Bass added 15. Other Notable Scout Performance: Ryan Bender chipped in seven points, his highest scoring effort of the season. Who’s Next: The Scouts compete next at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Mundelein Regional against the winner of the previous day’s Buffalo Grove-Hersey contest. The Bottom Line: Lake Forest led by as much as 36 during the game. The Scouts finished the regular season with a 19-7 record. Senior Peter Grumhaus broke the 500 freestyle record with his time, and the Lake Forest 400 free relay set a new record time of 3:08.70.
The Lake Forest High School Scouts placed first at this weekend's Vernon Hills Boys Swimming & Diving Sectional. With a final score of 263, the Scouts beat out Libertyville High School (256 points), Gurnee High School (239 points) and four other schools. Senior Peter Grumhaus especially has reason to celebrate. He placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:35.31. He also placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.61. Grumhaus broke the 500 freestyle record with his time, and the Lake Forest 400 free relay set a new record time of 3:08.70. Lake Forest High School boys’ basketball team dominates Wildcats as girls end season.
Feb. 12 Boys’ Basketball The Final Score: Lake Forest 75, Libertyville 53 Scouts Star Performer: Evan Boudreaux logged another double double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Other Notable Scout Performances: Cal Miller contributed 14 tallies, Ben Simpson added 12 and Sam Downey chipped in 10. Who’s Next: The Scouts entertain Lake Zurich at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Swimming Feb. 9 The Final Score: 1. Lake Forest 286, 2. Stevenson, 3. Libertyville 241, 4. Warren 207, 5. Mundelein 135, 6. Zion Benton 77, 7. Vernon Hills 76 Scouts’ Star Performers: Peter Grumhaus, Colin Rowe, Bogdan Balteanu and Daniel Smith teamed to win both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Grumhaus also won the 200 and 500 freestyle events while Rowe took the 100 freestyle and was second to Grumhaus in the 200. Balteanu was the winner in the 100 breaststroke and took third in the 200 individual medley. Smith grabbed second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 50 freestyle. Feb. 5 The Final Score: North Chicago 55, Lake Forest 43 Scouts Star Performer: Annie Keller had another double double with 19 points and 17 rebounds. She also contributed two steals and a block. Who’s Next: The Scouts begin Regional competition at 7:30 p.m. Monday against Mundelein in the Mundelein Regional. The Bottom Line: A 21-9 third quarter North Chicago run made the difference in an otherwise even game. Feb. 5 The Final Score: Lake Forest 53, Deerfield 49 Scouts Star Performer: Evan Boudreaux had another double double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Other Notable Scout Performance: Sam Downey chipped in 14 tallies. Who’s Next: The Scouts travel to Stevenson at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Bottom Line: Lake Forest never trailed in the game but never led by more than nine points as they continually came up with the plays to stay ahead of the Warriors. Taking a 43-35 lead into the fourth quarter, the Scouts got what the needed each time Deerfield got within a possession.
