Search firm hired to find successor to Jay Hoffmann who retired April 24 as head of Lake Forest High School.
Lake Forest High School is wasting no time finding a replacement for retired Principal Jay Hoffmann and hopes to have a new leader at the helm by June 30, according to an email Superintendent Michael Simeck sent to parents Wednesday. A search firm has been hired by Lake Forest Community High School District 115 and has been charged with finding a quick replacement in part to give interim Principal Jim Thiel, who retires at the end of the 2013-14 term, and the new head of the school time to work together. Five people—Todd Burgener, Dave Schreiber, John Powers, Steve Reimer and Robert “Ted” Moorman—are running for four open seats on the Lake Forest Community High School District 115 Board of Education. In Shields Township, the Shields Township Active Reform Team and the Unified Shields Party have competing slates for all offices. Five candidates for four seats on the Lake Forest High School District 115 Board of Education in the April 9 election made their case to more than 90 people during a League of Women Voters forum Sunday at the Lake Forest Public Library. Todd Burgener, Ted Moorman, John Powers, Steve Reimer and Dave Schreiber answered questions from a moderator and made a direct plea to voters in opening and closing statements. A decision by the Lake Forest High School Board of Education in July not to accept a gift from the Lake Forest High School Boosters to improve east campus athletic facilities has sparked a controversy by some in the community though those most intimately involved are not part of it. Though the Boosters’ Diamond Campaign, which would have added a turf athletic field, a new track and more did not ultimately materialize, it did help motivate the Board to consider doing some of the work. The war of words that has taken place this week on Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Patch articles is a perfect example of why Lake Forest High School District 115 needs not just new board members, but a whole new culture. The sniping which ensued after Nancy Thorner published an opinion piece calling into question the ever-increasing costs at the High School demonstrates clearly what so many have been complaining about, that the District 115 School Board lacks transparency, openness and accountability. Without openness and transparency the local taxpayers simply do not receive enough information to feel comfortable that the Board is being a good steward of the assets entrusted to them. Lake Forest High School teachers will stop working at 12.01 a.m. Sept. 12 if no agreement is reached with the Lake Forest High School District 115 Board of Education, according to a statement today by Lake Forest Education Association teachers’ union (LFEA) spokesperson Chuck Gress. The union issued a Notice of Intent to Strike to the Board at 4 p.m. today after Thursday’s mediation session failed to produce a deal and the LFEA found the District’s last and final offer under the collective bargaining process unsatisfactory. Daughter graduated in 1992. She was on the girls golf team and Mr. Hoffmann sub a few times for Mrs. Miller. Nancy always came home and said how she liked Mr. Hoffmann.   more ›
