Lake Forest High School pole vaulter heads back to State Meet after Sectional victory. Scouts take fifth at Sectional as Schlachtenhaufen, Chode and relay also qualify.
Lake Forest High School pole vaulter Carly Schmidt dwarfed the competition at the Palatine Sectional Friday to qualify for the State Meet Thursday through Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Schmidt led two other Scouts—distance runners Helen Schlachtenhaufen and Elle Chode—and the 4x800-meter relay team into the State Finals as the team placed fifth in the Sectional with 42 points. Search firm hired to find successor to Jay Hoffmann who retired April 24 as head of Lake Forest High School.
Lake Forest High School is wasting no time finding a replacement for retired Principal Jay Hoffmann and hopes to have a new leader at the helm by June 30, according to an email Superintendent Michael Simeck sent to parents Wednesday. A search firm has been hired by Lake Forest Community High School District 115 and has been charged with finding a quick replacement in part to give interim Principal Jim Thiel, who retires at the end of the 2013-14 term, and the new head of the school time to work together. The Lake Forest High School Foundation recently awarded its first student-initiated grant. The students researched the feasibility and equipment needed to retrofit all eight of the school’s chilled-water fountains with water bottle dispensers. The hands-free equipment automatically fills reusable water bottles and displays a continuous "Green Counter," showing the number of disposable water bottles saved from the landfill. Students in environmental sciences can then use this data in class. "Our grants benefit every student, in every grade, at every learning level," said Mindy Bourne, Lake Forest High School Foundation Chair. SADD “Depression Awareness Week” events will take place beginning Monday, May 6 at Lake Forest High School.
The information below comes from Lake Forest High School. Class of 2014 senior yearbook portrait appointment sign-up dates are Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2 in the LFHS student cafeteria. Visual Image Photography (VIP) is the official photographer of Lake Forest High School. In order to appear in the yearbook, all seniors must have their photo taken by VIP. Photographs submitted from other studios will not be accepted into the yearbook. Sign-ups will be held in the Cafeteria from 10:30 am -1:30 pm.
