Carol Jacobs is being charged with theft (class 4 felony) after stealing over $20,000 worth of jewelry.
A North Chicago woman who was working as a nanny in Lake Forest is being charged with class 4 felony theft for stealing jewelry from her employer's home, according to Lake Forest Police reports. The report states that Carol Jacobs, 52, was cooperative with officers and admitted to stealing approximately 24 pieces of jewelry over several weeks. She had been pawning the pieces at several pawnshops and cash for gold locations throughout Lake County, predominately at Mr. Oro’s in Waukegan. The total loss so far is around $20,000, police said. Detective Mark Senger said a couple of other people have come forward to say that she had worked for them in the past, and they had found things missing from their homes. Public Intoxication Matthew Davis, 22, of Centervile, Ohio, was arrested on Aug. 27 at 4 a.m. and charged with Public Intoxication. Police were called to a disturbance in the 100 block of Washington Court and found Davis intoxicated. Minor Possession of Alcohol A 16-year-old Lake Bluff resident was arrested at the corner of Loch and Circle on Aug. 23 at 8:55 p.m. and charged with Minor Possession of Alcohol. Police were called to the area for a vandalized vehicle. Police located the young man and discovered alcohol on his person. Residents who violate the Hands-Free Cell Phone Ordinance will receive warnings until Oct. 1.
Starting Oct. 1 drivers who violate Lake Forest's Hands-Free Cell Phone Ordinance will receive a ticket, The Lake Forester reports. As of Sept. 1 the law, which bans using hand-held devices while driving, will be lightly enforced for one month. During this grace period, Lake Forest Police will only be issuing "warnings" to offenders, according to The Sun-Times. Woodstock Man Charged In Deadly Street Race McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Woodstock man in connection with a fatal traffic crash that killed two 16-year-old boys on July 1. Dan L. Huber is charged with failure to report a traffic crash, a Class 1 felony and aggravated street racing, a Class 4 felony, according to a sheriff’s department release. His bond was set at $100,000. Morton Grove Man Killed Crossing Tracks To Greet Fiancee Danny You, 38, was crossing the train tracks in Morton Grove at about 6 p.m. Tuesday to meet his fiancee on the other side, said Michael Slattery of Skokie, who identified himself as You's roommate, friend and co-worker at a Morton Grove moving company. "He was on top of the world, because [You was] supposed to get married Wednesday (the following day)," Slattery said. "He had it all set. They were going to get married at the courthouse." Buffalo Grove Man Charged After Fireworks Cause Large Brush Fire A brush fire northwest of Buffalo Grove and Aptakisic roads destroyed grass and wiped out power to thousands of residents, but no lives or homes were harmed in the blaze. The fire was started by fireworks and quickly consumed about 15 acres of Commonwealth Edison property July 8. Police charged Gabriel R. Horwich, 20, of 424 Cedar Court North, Buffalo Grove, with criminal damage to property by reckless means of a fire — a Class 4 felony. Barrington Hills May 10 A Barrington Hills couple was found dead Thursday, May 10 in an apparent murder-suicide. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the couple as Julianne Damato, 47, and Joseph Damato, 56. Police were at their home at the end of Lakeview Lane early Thursday morning. When police searched the home, they found Jospeh Damato dead in the garage, and found Julianne Damato dead in the second floor master bedroom. Julianne Damato died of multiple gunshot wounds. Crystal Lake May 2 Two people were killed Thursday in a plane crash near the Lake in the Hills Airport, Crystal Lake police said. The Northwest Herald reports Hugh Scott Clark, 65, of Lake Forest, and Paul San Filippo, 82, of Grayslake, died in the accident and "were in the front seats of the plane when it crashed." A witness on the scene said they heard a loud noise and saw the plane make a sharp bank from the south to the north before going down. The witness said that the plane might have lost power.
