Lake Forest High School’s Nina Nissly swims in first athletes with disability competition and becomes Illinois’s first triple individual champion.

Three week ago Lake Forest High School senior Nina Nissly was a member of the Scout junior varsity swim team getting ready for the North Suburban Conference Meet as she had during all four years of her career. On Saturday she became the first triple high school swimming champion in Illinois history. It took a lawsuit and help from Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan as three gold medals came her way at the State Meet Friday and Saturday in Evanston. Earlier: Athletes With Disabilities Make History at ETHS This Weekend Nissly was one of seven swimmers to compete in the inaugural Athletes with Disabilities heats of the State Finals after the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) settled a lawsuit filed by Fenwick High School’s Mary Kay …

Scientific Research Puts Lake Forest High School Senior in Running for Siemens Scholarship

Scouts swimmer must choose making research presentation over attending her final State meet.

After participating in the State swim meet for Lake Forest High School a year ago, Lilly Wang expected to return to the finals next weekend with her teammates for a run at a top-five team finish.  Little did Wang know this past summer of scientific research at the University of Chicago would force her to decide between competing for the Scouts or presenting a scientific paper that could lead to a $100,000 scholarship to the college of her choice.  Wang, a senior, landed an internship at the University of Chicago this past summer and wrote a 20-page paper on her scientific research on human metabolism. Lake Forest Seeks Sectional Swimming Crown, State Qualifying Berths

Rachel Stoehr and Mika Hlavin ink post-high school endeavors for Arkansas, West Point.

While their focus for this Saturday is about the team, Lake Forest High School’s Rachel Stoehr and Mika Hlavin took some time Wednesday to celebrate personal accomplishments. Both Lake Forest swimmers inked national letters of intent Wednesday, which was the early signing day for high school athletes. Stoehr will take her talents to the University of Arkansas, while Hlavin is headed to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.  Stoehr immediately was attracted to the Razorbacks program and looks forward to competing at the collegiate level in the Southeastern Conference. “I knew it was the right place once I got there,” she said.  Hlavin is not looking just at swimming as she embarks on a career that could have her spend 12 years in the …

Lake Forest Swimmers Count on Campbell's Individual Efforts at Conference Meet

Scouts begin season's big three: Conference, Sectional and State meets.

Olivia Campbell has been a team player for Lake Forest High School's girls’ swimming team throughout her career.  But she may be ready for her close-up, Mr. DeMille. This year, Campbell is favored to win a pair of gold medals as the Scouts head into the North Suburban Conference (NSC) meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at Vernon Hills High School.  “I have always put her where we needed her,” Lake Forest Coach Carolyn Grevers said. “This year she had goals to go to state in the 200 IM (individual medley) and 100 fly (butterfly), but she did not have one of the two best times so she’s swimming the 500 free (freestyle) in Sectionals.”  Campbell, who is seeded first in the league in the 200-yard individual medley, is also eager to produce points for the…
