From the team behind Market House on the Square, the upscale seafood restaurant will open in Lake Forest Saturday.
Great news for foodies – the North Shore is finally about to get an upscale seafood restaurant, courtesy of the same creative team behind Lake Forest’s Market House on the Square. MH Fish House will open in downtown Lake Forest on the 29th, sharing a building with the Market House. (Fish House will be upstairs, and will have a separate entrance and kitchen.) “We knew when we bought the building that we wanted to have a new restaurant back there,” Mark Westcott, owner of both Market House and MH Fish House, said. “We didn’t rush it…but after about a month it became clear that one thing that was missing on the North Shore is a really good seafood restaurant. Courtesy of Market House on the Square All of the Market House on the Square proceeds from Monday evening, November 5, will be donated to the Red Cross for their tireless efforts aiding the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Please join us, eat a hearty meal and help thousands of men, women and children who receive services from the Red Cross every year. From major disasters to neighborhood fires, the Red Cross provides food, shelter and assistance to those when they are in the most need. Please call and reserve a table, we hope to be very busy.

The former South Gate Cafe becomes Market House on the Square.
At one time, there was a hole in the ceiling of the main dining area marking where firemen once slid down a pole in the race to get to the scene of the fire in a building that one housed the city's fire and police departments. With a Lake Forest building steeped in such history and more than 100 years old, residents Carla and Mark Westcott will open Market House on the Square on Friday night with hopes of maintaining those community ties under a new name. The former South Gate Café sign is still intact facing Forest Avenue for now, and it's familiarity is not lost on the Westcotts, who recall that after moving to Lake Forest in the late 1980s, one of their first meals was at the restaurant. “We used to bring our little baby in a car seat …
