Readers Want Family Restaurant in Lake Bluff

Latest Patch poll indicates a wish for the return to the type of eatery which once catered to diners at Waukegan Road and Highway 176.

A family restaurant where one once operated at the intersection of Waukegan Road and Highway 176 is the overwhelming choice to return by filling the vacant space at that location next to Panera Bread, according to a recent poll of Patch readers. Of the 16 people who responded to the survey, 10 hoped to see a family restaurant in the space while four want gourmet offerings and two hope for a retail business. Panera Introduces Sandwich Contest to North Shore Residents

Build a sandwich, submit the recipe online and it might appear on the Panera Bread menu.

The following release was provided by Panera Bread.  When it comes to finding a dish with universal appeal, no food comes close to the almighty sandwich. And now Panera Bread is giving sandwich enthusiasts on the North Shore the chance to bring their ideal sandwich creations to life through Panera’s Sandwich Showdown contest.   Now through October 6, North Shore community members can submit their original sandwich recipes online at www.TLC.com/Panera. The site gives contestants a list of Panera’s toppings and ingredients, which can be combined with its artisan and other specialty breads to create the ideal sandwich through an interactive virtual sandwich builder. Three Customers Have Their Wallets Lifted at Panera's in Lake Bluff

Police continue investigation.

  Lake Bluff Police continue to investigate three incidents of theft within a 48-hour period last week at the Panera Bread, 200 S. Waukegan Road, in Lake Bluff. The first incident was reported at 2:15 p.m. Jan. 5. The woman was eating lunch when her wallet was taken from her purse, which was on the floor next to her feet. She told police she felt movement, and by the time she looked her wallet was gone containing credit cards and $8 in cash. Two cases occured Jan. 6, and were reported to Lake Bluff Police at 5:33 p.m. and 7:23 p.m., respectively. In the first incident, the victim had placed the handbag on the back of the chair. She had her back exposed to the rest of the restaurant, and someone came by and stole her wallet containing $20 …

A Lake Bluff 11-year-old who loves hockey and listens to the Jonas Brothers is closer to viewing the world from a cruise ship thanks to help from her peers and families following a Valentine’s Day cookie decorating event Saturday at Panera Bread in Lake Bluff. Megan, whose last name was protected by the Make-A Wish Foundation of Illinois, was diagnosed in 2000 with cystic fibrosis, a hereditary disease affecting the entire body, causing progressive disability or worse. Among the painful, disabling symptoms are thick mucus build-up in the lungs and digestive tract.
