Committee gathering proposals from firms to file report in late fall on what expenditures may be necessary to repair facility.
Lake Bluff Park District officials received a pleasant surprise this spring when they discovered that the liner in their aquatic facility had held up well throughout the winter. This means that there will be one more swimming season for the pool without any extra repair costs. The pool will open June 4. “Everything looks great, and we’re ready to go again this summer,” said Dave Peterson, director of facilities and recreational services for the Lake Bluff Park District. Although park district leaders were hopeful the 40-year old pool would be able to hold up through one more summer, they could not say for sure that it would happen until after they saw the state of the liner following the thaw from this past winter. Last spring, the park …

The future depends on gathering information to determine repairs, funding or another referendum.
What is the message from the Lake Bluff Board of Park Commissioners about the future of the Lake Bluff Pool? They have not given up. “We’re active. We’re not letting this pool go,” said commissioner Rob Douglass at the board’s committee of the whole meeting Monday night. Park District Executive Director Ron Salski presented commissioners with a comprehensive master plan for possible next steps toward making much-needed repairs to the 40-year-old pool. As for this summer, however, the park district expects the Lake Bluff Pool will make it through one more swimming season before repairs are absolutely necessary to continue future operations. The cost to repair the pool for the coming season is still undetermined at this point. The master …

New agreement will not bring Lake Forest into the Lake Bluff Pool renovation issue.
Although the Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Department and the Lake Bluff Park District have combined some of their programming in the past to serve the recreational needs of the community, a recently approved intergovernmental agreement makes their partnership more official. “It wasn’t as defined,” explained Lake Bluff Park District Executive Director Ron Salski, who added the idea to approve an agreement between the two parks and recreation bodies came about through simple mutual communication over the years. "We have always had a great relationship and good communication with Lake Bluff Park District staff," said Wendy McKiernan, superintendent of Recreation for Lake Forest Parks and Recreation. "This intergovernmental agreement makes…

Park District focuses on private fundraising and community engagement.
Taking lessons learned after their referendum to rebuild the Lake Bluff Pool failed in November's election, park district leaders have decided not to try for its passage in April. The Board of Park Commissioners discussed seven different scenarios of how to proceed with their plans to rebuild the pool, including three which involved placing a revised measure on the April ballot, and four that would push the referendum date back by at least one year. The future of the Lake Bluff pool became a heated one during election season. Supporters argued the pool was needed to protect property values and provide outdoor recreation for Lake Bluff's children. Opponents countered the design and price tag for the proposed new pool and additional capital …

Supporters of the pool's reconstruction to decide the best way to move forward.
Lake Bluff voters chose not to have their community pool rebuilt Tuesday. At least not as soon as some would have hoped. The Lake Bluff Park District's proposed $10.7 million referendum, which focused on the reconstruction of the Lake Bluff Pool, and its bath house, failed in Tuesday's election with nearly 59 percent (1,580 votes) of voters casting ballots against the proposal. Approximately 41 percent (1,099 votes) voted in favor of the referendum, according to the Lake County Government election website. "The Lake Bluff Park Board would like to thank the Park District Task Force members, the Yes Committee, and the countless residents who took the time to attend informational forums, ask questions, and learn the facts about challenges …
