Lake Bluff Aquatic Facility Will Be Open for the Summer, But Beyond Remains A Question Mark

Committee gathering proposals from firms to file report in late fall on what expenditures may be necessary to repair facility.

Lake Bluff Park District officials received a pleasant surprise this spring when they discovered that the liner in their aquatic facility had held up well throughout the winter. This means that there will be one more swimming season for the pool without any extra repair costs. The pool will open June 4. “Everything looks great, and we’re ready to go again this summer,” said Dave Peterson, director of facilities and recreational services for the Lake Bluff Park District. Although park district leaders were hopeful the 40-year old pool would be able to hold up through one more summer, they could not say for sure that it would happen until after they saw the state of the liner following the thaw from this past winter. Lake Bluff Pool Will Not Go to Referendum in April

Park District focuses on private fundraising and community engagement.

Taking lessons learned after their referendum to rebuild the Lake Bluff Pool failed in November's election, park district leaders have decided not to try for its passage in April. The Board of Park Commissioners discussed seven different scenarios of how to proceed with their plans to rebuild the pool, including three which involved placing a revised measure on the April ballot, and four that would push the referendum date back by at least one year. The future of the Lake Bluff pool became a heated one during election season. Supporters argued the pool was needed to protect property values and provide outdoor recreation for Lake Bluff's children. Exit Poll Shows Lake Bluff Residents Split on Pool Referendum

Just like every other electoral race taking place Tuesday, the referendum to reconstruct the Lake Bluff Park District pool may prove to be extremely tight, if an informal exit poll taken by Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch is any indication. Fifty Lake Bluff voters exiting the village's polling places at the Lake Bluff Park District and Union Church of Lake Bluff Tuesday were asked whether they cast a "yes" or a "no" vote on the highly debated referendum. The poll showed a dead even split with 25 voters saying they voted for the new pool, while another 25 said they voted against it. The $10.7 million referendum, with $7.1 million earmarked for the construction of a new public swimming pool, and an additional $3.55 million to fund a five-year …
