Q&A With Diamond Anniversary Campaign Spokesman Brian Vandenberg

Capital campaign for new sports complex at Lake Forest High School's east campus hits $1 million mark.

The goal: to privately raise $2.5 million for a new facility that would be home for a new track, bleachers, press box and synthetic turf fields. Sports such as field hockey, girls' lacrosse and girls and boys' track and field would use the complex as their primary venue along with high school wellness classes, intramurals and other activities. The name of the fundraising efforts is the "Diamond Anniversary Campaign", which is in reference to the high school's 75th birthday this year.  Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch spoke with the campaign's front man, Brian…

Third Time Meeting With Stevenson is no Charm for Lake Forest

Scouts' nerves falter in Sectional volleyball final.

The third time could only be the charm for one team Thursday night. Stevenson High School overcame two regular-season losses to Lake Forest and a Game 1 loss in Thursday night's Sectional final to post an 18-25, 25-20 and 25-23 victory at Buffalo Grove High School. For the second straight year, the Patriots (31-8) will play in the Super-Sectional with a chance to advance to the Class 4A semifinals on Nov. 11 at Illinois State University in Normal. The Scouts (32-4) close the season with one of their deepest state tournament runs in at least a decade. Who Let These Dogs Out? Lake Forest Continues State Volleyball Tourney Roll

Sectional finals next on Thursday night.

Lake Forest High School's girls' volleyball team has gone to the dogs. OK, not exactly. But dogs was the source of motivation for the Scouts in preparation for Tuesday night's Class 4A Sectional semifinal against North Suburban Conference (NSC) rival Lake Zurich at Buffalo Grove High School. “We had a dog house theme," said Lake Forest's Tori Lanzillotti. "We were playing “Who Let the Dogs Out” on the bus. And we all were different dog characters, like Heidi (Sierks) being Clifford the Big Red Dog. And we also call our school Dog Town." “It was just our way of getting really amped to play Lake Zurich. They’re always such a tough team," she added. It worked. The Scouts stopped the Bears, 25-15, 25-23, as Lanzillotti posted 10 kills, 8 digs …

Glory Days with Lake Forest High School Athlete Sarah Spain

ESPN anchor recalls her days playing basketball, field hockey and running track at Lake Forest High School.

Sarah Spain does have a favorite statistic from her days playing basketball at Lake Forest High School. It's called blocked shots. The ability to swat away another person's attempt at  scoring. "I had a couple triple-doubles with blocks, rebounds and points and I think my favorite stat, that I still remember to this day, was that I averaged eight blocks a game my senior year,'' said the 5-foot 11 Spain. "There's something very satisfying about rejecting someone else's shot, right? That's my uber-competitive side showing. I still have trouble reigning that in these days, even just when playing rec league sports." A Force Inside The year was 1998 and Spain was in her glory days as an athlete playing field hockey, basketball and running track…
