Nearly 20,000 middle and high school students in Lake County participated in the 2012 Illinois Youth Survey (IYS)—a state wide survey with questions about drugs, nutrition and safety. The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) has funded the administration of the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS) biennially since 1990. Lake County's survey included participation by 68 percent of the county's middle schools and 71 percent of the county's high schools. The Lake County Health Department received a national Drug-Free Communities grant for the Lake County Underage Drinking Prevention Task Force.
Armed with new resources and ideas, Lake County officials are more determined than ever to reduce drinking and prescription drug abuse among youths. The Lake County Underage Drinking Prevention Task Force recently secured a $125,000 national Drug Free Communities grant that will help local municipalities raise more awareness in the suburbs and implement programs aimed at easing these problems across the county. “The ultimate goal is to reduce substance abuse levels in Lake County,” said Kristine Andersen, the Lake County Health Department’s coordinator for alcohol, tobacco and drug prevention. “There’s no one (effort) that’s going to change it all, but if you have the right tools and use the right tools at the right time, it can make …

Social Hosting Casey Flynn, 22, and Justin Smith, 21, both of Lake Forest were arrested Sept. 1 for hosting a party where 22 persons were charged with underage drinking, according to Lake Forest Police reports. Police said they received a noise complaint in the 80 block of North Washington Street where they discovered Flynn and Smith hosting a party where 22 persons under 21 were drinking. All 22 were charged as well, according to the report. Flynn, Smith and the underage drinkers will appear for an administrative hearing at 10 a.m. Oct. 10 at Lake Forest City Hall. Public Intoxication Matthew Davis, 22, of Centervile, Ohio, was arrested on Aug. 27 at 4 a.m. and charged with Public Intoxication. Police were called to a disturbance in the 100 block of Washington Court and found Davis intoxicated. Minor Possession of Alcohol A 16-year-old Lake Bluff resident was arrested at the corner of Loch and Circle on Aug. 23 at 8:55 p.m. and charged with Minor Possession of Alcohol. Police were called to the area for a vandalized vehicle. Police located the young man and discovered alcohol on his person. Domestic Battery Jose Lopez, 56 of Wheeling, was charged with Domestic Battery on Aug. 19 at 3:30 p.m. and arrested in the 100 block of Field Drive. Lopez was held for bond. Dear Parents, As proms and graduations approach, the Lake Forest Police Department would like to remind everyone that in Illinois drivers less than 21 years of age are subject to zero tolerance laws, which make it illegal for those under the age of 21 to drive after having consumed any amount of alcohol. A violation of zero tolerance laws may result in license revocation, significant fines, and extended community service. The police department also reminds parents and businesses under the social hosting laws that they may be held criminally and civilly liable for any incidents that result from making alcoholic beverages available to anyone under the age of 21. The possession of alcohol by anyone under the age of 21 is prohibited. …

For those of us that live in that area ( by the college) . This has become a nightmare!!!! The parties at that house go on all night long and the students that leave at 2 am have started to vandalize homes in that area, from stealing to destroying property.
