Sunday's "All-Star Celebrity Apprentice" will name the winner of the best new ice cream flavor created for Deerfield-based Walgreens.
Deerfield-based Walgreens' own brand of ice cream, Delish, is getting some major promotion thanks to Donald Trump's popular TV show "All-Star Celebrity Apprentice." Two of the show's contestants, country singer Trace Adkins and magician Penn Jillette, were recently challenged to create a new Delish flavor for the show's finale, reported the Chicago Tribune. Tune in Sunday night to find out which flavor wins—Adkins' "Maple Macadamia Mash-Up" or Jillette's "Vanilla & Chocolate Magic Swirtle." Through an expansion of its Take Care Clinics, Walgreens now offers treatment and management for chronic conditions such as diabetes and asthma.
Deerfield-based Walgreens has announced that more than 330 of its Take Care Clinics have expand to offer new health care services to assess, treat and manage chronic conditions including hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and asthma, according to a company statement. “With this service expansion, Take Care Clinics now provide the most comprehensive service offering within the retail clinic industry, and can play an even more valuable role in helping patients get, stay and live well,” said Dr. Jeffrey Kang, senior vice president of health and wellness services and solutions, Walgreens. Walgreens is poised to become the global leader in prescription pharmaceuticals.
Deerfield-based Walgreens and Alliance Boots, a leading international pharmacy-led health and beauty group, have entered into a 10-year contract with pharmaceutical company AmerisourceBergen that will allow Walgreens to able to buy and sell generic drugs at a lower cost than anyone else, reported Crain's Chicago Business. This relationship will result in greater sales, improved service levels and efficiencies, while reducing costs and increasing patient access to pharmaceuticals, according to a Walgreens press release. The Lake Forest mansion owned by Charles R. Walgreen, great-grandson of Walgreen Co. founder Charles Rudolph Walgreen, is under contract eight months after a foreclosure suit was filed, Crain's Chicago Business reports. Records show that U.S. Bank filed foreclosure on the property in March, citing a "$1.7 million line of credit issued in 2006 by United Community Bank of Lisle," the article states. The Ridge Road home, which was listed with the agency Koenig and Strey Real Living, went under contract after it was relisted for around $1.4 million, the Crain's article said.. Drug store giant get tax incentives to create jobs in Deerfield; local officials pleased
In the seemingly constant drumbeat of news regarding a lethargic economy, all positive developments are welcome so when it was announced Friday Walgreen’s would be adding a sizable number of jobs near its Deerfield home base, there were smiles all around. Through a deal with the state laden with tax incentives, Walgreen’s will add 500 jobs throughout the drug store giant’s local headquarters and other surrounding communities. These will be corporate jobs promised to focus on Walgreen’s online activities as well as pharmacy, health and wellness services. Lake County Sheriffs are seeking the public's help in catching a man suspected of robbing the Walgreens, 12700 Rockland Road (Route 176) in unincorporated Knollwood, on Sunday morning. The cashier reported that a male white or male Hispanic suspect entered the store at 8:30 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 9), picked up a Rice Crispy Treat, placed the treat on the cashier’s counter and held out a 3- inch pocket knife, according to a release from the Lake County Sheriff's office. The release stated the suspect told the cashier that he did not want to hurt her and that he only wanted the money. The cashier opened the cash drawer and the offender took $229 from the drawer. Overall, I preferred Trace's, but neither one would set off a craving for me. Penn's ice cream was ok but lacked enough vanilla flavor to me. Turtle candy normally contains pecans and I think it would have been a nice addition his ice cream. The "swirl" was more like hard chunks of overly salted chocolate and a little much for my taste.
