Civic minded Lake Forest woman won awards for interior design.
Nora Cooney Marra, 52, of Lake Forest died Tuesday surrounded by her family at her home after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, according to information provided by Wenban Funeral Home. Marra was the owner of her own interior design firm based in Chicago, Nora C Marra Interiors. She designed homes throughout the Chicagoland area and around the country winning a number of awards. Doing interior design from Aspen to Chicago and Florida, Marra was the recipient of a prizes for her work but it was not her nature to discuss her personal accomplishments, according to her brother, John Cooney. Lake Forest resident, entrepreneur and leader in financial futures industry dies from brain aneurysm on trip to China.
Elizabeth Cheval, 56, of Lake Forest, the founder and chairman of Bannockburn based EMC Capital Management, Inc., and one of the leaders in the managed futures industry died March 9, according to Wenban Funeral Home. Cheval died from a brain aneurysm while in Beijing, China, on business. Cheval founded EMC in 1988. At EMC, Cheval established herself as one of the top trading advisors in the industry both in terms of her success and the longevity of her company. Under her leadership, EMC has a portfolio in excess of $100 million with an annualized return of 21 percent, according to the firm’s website. Funeral services for Lake Forest resident set Tuesday in Deerfield.
Stanley M. Ackerman, 78, of Lake Forest died Friday. He was 78. He was a beloved music educator, conductor, violinist, viola player, chamber music coach and public school orchestra director for over 40 years. He was the beloved husband for 53 years of Charlene (nee Berger) and the loving father of Bruce and Michael Ackerman and the late Shari Leah Ackerman as well as the proud grandfather of Annie Drew and Blake Ackerman. He was also the caring father-in-law of Jennifer Goldmann, the dear brother-in-law of Rosalyn (Morton) Munk and the cherished uncle of Dr. Stephen (Barbara) Munk.
