On the article Should DUI Alcohol Limit Be Lowered To 0.05 Percent?

ReplyThe clue phone is ringing, Illinois politicos! Hello!
Look at the stats they provide, and you have a much better answer than lowering the limit: more patrolling of bars after midnight.
Most DUI's are first timers, younger folks getting caught after midnight, and with levels twice the current limit. How is lowering the limit really going to address the true core of offenders?
This is actually just a revenue generating scheme, since with such a lower limit, any traffic ticket will automatically trigger a breath test, and voila!: lots more tickets written for DUI...

176 traffic is bad because of the combination of the railroad tracks and traffic llights at the 176/41 interchange and because 176 chokes down to 2 lanes from 4 in places. The planned new 41/176 interchange should alleviate much of that.
The target would occupy a currently abandoned industrial complex, and I personally would love more shopping options than always having to truck over to the Townline Rd./Milwaukee Ave. "strip mall explosion"...

I sure hope you were just being facetious. In case you weren't:
1) Yes, there are Italian-Americans living in HP, and people don't limit themselves to just one community when eating out ("Duh!")
2) Italians aren't the only ones who enjoy "Italian food" (major "Duh!")
3) A "deli" comes in a multitude of ethnic flavors ("Duh!" again)John des Rosiers has a lot of craetive energy, and he'll no doubt eventually succeeed outisde of LB/LF...

Mike,
We aren't against affordable housing; we are against the use of government intervention in a way the lowers property values or otherwise distorts free markets to achieve that outcome.
We have no problem if private individuals or non-profits use their own money, pay market value for property and then turn around and "give" the use of that property to anyone they choose.
There's plenty of affordable housing, but no one is entitled to a short commute if it lowers property values...

I wouldn't treat people as badly as you suggest (though I know your were being sarcastic).
I'm all for helping the relatively poor (with tax breaks), but I'm dead set against distorting free markets in the name of diversity.
Diversity is valuable, but not enough to justify destroying property values and distorting markets through government fiat to achieve it.

Scott,
Thanks, but I think you meant to address "Ed" below. I was just asking if that would be the case with the new service.
In may case, I was not asked for a tip (the subject never came up); I was just not given an opportunity to opt out.

"if you don't want the service just decline it "
I was not given that opportunity - it was pushed on me (at the Libertyville Jewel). Otherwise, I wouldn't be posting here...

It's actually not at all new. It's been happening for several years.
