Man Charged with iPhone Theft

ALCOHOL

John R. Sabey, 34, of 2737 W. Warren Blvd., Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence at 2:36 a.m. Nov. 30 on Westleigh Road at Butler after an officer stopped him for speeding and making an improper U-turn. He was released on a $3,000 bond and given a Jan. 14 court date at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.

Amarildo E. Monterroso, 45, of 2835 S. Home, Berwyn, was charged with driving under the influence at 11:29 p.m. Nov. 29 on Route 41 at Deerpath after police received a report of a possibly impaired driver. An officer observed Monterroso’s car swerving. Monterroso told the officer he’d had six drinks, and he failed three field sobriety tests. He was released on a $3,000 bond and given a Jan. 14 court date at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.

THEFT

Bruno Gomez, 52, of 111214 4th Ave., Pleasant Prairie, Wis., was charged with theft of lost or mislaid property at 1:10 p.m. Dec. 6 on the 700 block of north Western Avenue. The charge came after a person reported her iPhone had been stolen in a neighboring community. Detectives tracked the phone using GPS and recovered it from Gomez’s jacket pocket. Police said Gomez denied stealing the phone, but that he said he had found it in a parking lot and had no intention of returning it. He was released on a $1,500 bond and given a Dec. 23 court date at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.
