Lake Forest Lifts Water Ban

Lake Forest has lifted the watering ban that was put into effect last week.

Lake Forest has lifted the watering ban that was put into effect last week, according to a news release from the city.

"Effective immediately, The City of Lake Forest has lifted the watering ban under the premise that all residents adhere to the even/odd regulation," the release says.

The City took action last week because high algae levels had cut the amount of water Lake Forest is able to purify in half. Then, people disregarded the restrictions put in place Sunday, according to Dan Martin, Superintendent of Public Works.

“While the algae conditions still exist in Lake Michigan, the City is cautiously moving forward and lifting the ban, hoping that all residents comply with the sprinkling ordinance.," Martin said. "Although heavy wave action caused by storms last week broke up the large algae blooms, we can’t predict if or when the algae may or may not return."

Martin is encouraging residents to stick to the watering restrictions to reduce the possibility of future watering bans, assuming the algae infiltrates the system again.
