Lake Bluff Principal Retires Immediately

District 65 Board accepts resignation of Shelley Overman from Lake Bluff Elementary School for purpose of retirement at Thursday's meeting.

Lake Bluff Elementary School Principal Shelley Overman retired effective Thursday and the Lake Bluff District 65 Board of Education accepted her resignation at a meeting Thursday, according to a letter to parents from Superintendent Jean Sophie.

Paul McKinney, a former principal in Wheaton-Warrenville School District 200, will become the interim principal Monday, according to Sophie’s letter. He is a retired educator with 21 years of experience.

“I am currently eligible to retire with full pension benefit from the Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System,” Overman wrote in a letter to the Board. “Due to the state’s pension crisis and other personal reasons, I have elected retire effective on today’s date (April 11).”

Overman will be available through the end of the school year to assist with the transition, according to Sophie’s letter. Sophie did not return calls to Patch for additional information before publication of this article.

Under McKinney’s leadership, schools in the Wheaton-Warrenville District earned a number of distinctions including the Blue Ribbon Award from the United States Department of Education. Sophie encourages parents to come to the school and introduce themselves to McKinney.

Sophie will also have more information about the leadership of Lake Bluff Elementary School in the coming weeks, according to her letter.
